At least eight sailors died and three were reported missing when a Uruguayan Navy boat was hit by a Panamanian-flagged freighter and sank about 12 miles south of Cabo Polonio, said naval officials in Uruguay's capital city, Montevideo. The 179-foot Uruguayan vessel was split in two by the Panamanian ship, navy officials told reporters.
