Two Cal State Fullerton assistant basketball coaches have resigned, with one of those vacancies being filled by one of Coach Bob Hawking's former players at Simi Valley High. George Tuttle, who has been on Hawking's staff for three seasons after working for Brad Holland for one season, resigned to take a job with a financial investment firm in Orange County, Hawking said Monday. A part-time assistant, Jeff Dunlap, also has resigned to pursue full-time positions, Hawking said.

Bob Thornton has resigned as a Cal State Fullerton assistant basketball coach to accept a job coaching in a professional league in the Philippines, Titan Coach Bob Hawking said Wednesday. Thornton, a former assistant at Chapman and Orange Coast College, was at Fullerton one season. Thornton, 36, played at UC Irvine from 1981 to 1984 and and played for Philadelphia, Minnesota, Utah and Washington in the NBA. Hawking also said freshman Josh Helbig has decided not to rejoin the team.

Cal State Fullerton center Matt Caldwell will have to sit out Sunday's basketball game at San Jose State as a result of being ejected from Tuesday night's game against Quincy (Ill.). "It's an NCAA rule, and one that is not subject to appeal," Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell said Wednesday.

Ike Harmon, who signed with Cal State Fullerton, won't be eligible to play basketball for the Titans next season. Coach Bob Hawking said Thursday that Harmon did not meet NCAA qualifying standards, but has enrolled at Fullerton under Proposition 48 guidelines. Under NCAA rules, Harmon can qualify for the 1997-98 season by passing a minimum of 24 academic units. Harmon, a 6-5 forward, averaged 22 points and 11.2 rebounds last season at Santa Ana Valley High.

Cal State Fullerton senior guard Danny Robinson, who missed the Titans' first five games of the season when he was academically ineligible, will rejoin the team for tonight's basketball game in Titan Gym against San Diego State. The Titans also will add David Harrison of Mt. Hood (Ore.) College to the roster. He also completed academic work to become eligible for the second semester.

Dane Plock, a sophomore guard, has been suspended indefinitely from the Cal State Fullerton men's basketball team for a violation of team rules. Coach Bob Hawking declined to specify what the violation was, and said he would have no further comment. Plock, who played at Estancia High, played in 25 of 27 games last season as a reserve. He averaged 6.3 points and 1.2 rebounds. Plock was a threat from three-point range, making 44 of 119 three-point attempts (37%).
