Prosecutors on Thursday added a felony identity theft charge against Jeffrey Braswell, son of Cal State Northridge men's basketball Coach Bobby Braswell, setting a trial date of June 18 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Bobby Braswell, the basketball coach at Cal State Northridge since 1996, is out as coach. The school announced that it would not renew his contract. Brandon Martin, the school's new athletic director, said in a statement Tuesday afternoon, "I want to thank Coach Braswell for his 17 years of service and contributions to our men's basketball program and the university community at large. I wish Coach Braswell and his family all the best moving forward. " Braswell, a Northridge graduate, had been the coach for 17 seasons, compiling a 251-258 record.

The crisis in Cal State Northridge Coach Bobby Braswell's locker room is also a crisis in his living room. Saying he is "shocked and saddened" about the alleged involvement of his son and two of his basketball players in a New Year's Day theft, Braswell announced the players will be held out of games indefinitely but would be allowed to practice and attend class.

A police report was filed Saturday night alleging that Cal State Northridge men's basketball Coach Bobby Braswell shoved a Cal State Fullerton student during halftime of the Matadors' 73-59 victory at Fullerton. A spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney's office said it has not received the report from the Fullerton university police. In the report, Braswell is alleged to have pushed Kevin Jacks while Jacks was being escorted out of the gymnasium by two officers.

Danny Garcia's run-scoring single in the ninth inning gave Pepperdine a 5-4 victory over Cal State Northridge on Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game in Malibu. Reliever Jacob Barrack (2-1) allowed one run in four innings. Three pitchers held Tim Arroyo hitless, ending the Northridge first baseman's hitting streak at 25 games. Outfielder Woody Cliffords, formerly of El Camino Real High, had three hits and scored three runs for 13th-ranked Pepperdine (28-12). Eric Verbryke had three hits for the Matadors (24-16)

It is becoming apparent that Bobby Braswell, for weeks rumored as a candidate for other coaching jobs, will return for a sixth season as men's basketball coach at Cal State Northridge. Braswell, 38, who led Northridge (22-10) to its first NCAA tournament appearance last season, last week withdrew his candidacy for the vacant position at Pepperdine, which eventually hired former NBA coach Paul Westphal.

Jeffrey Parris, a 6-foot-6 forward from Long Beach Jordan High, has become the first player signed by new Cal State Northridge basketball Coach Bobby Braswell. Parris averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds for Jordan, leading the Panthers to the Southern Section Division I championship. Parris was an All-State and All-Southern Section selection, and was the most valuable player in the Moore League. Northridge has signed three recruits.
