Brandan Perry rushed for 248 yards in 31 carries to lead Santiago past host Bolsa Grande, 34-0, Friday night at Bolsa Grande High. Perry finished the regular season with 1,567 yards and 11 touchdowns. "I just tried to run hard and help keep our season going," said an exhausted Perry, "This well could have been our last game." Santiago (5-5, 3-3 in league) needed a victory to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Bryan Loken rushed for 97 yards in 14 carries as Garden Grove cruised past Bolsa Grande, 40-7, in a Garden Grove League game Friday at Garden Grove High. The Argonauts (6-3, 5-0), who meet Pacifica next week with the league title on the line, used a potent option offense to pick apart Bolsa Grande's defense. Garden Grove scored on its first five possessions. "These guys always seem to step it up," Loken said. "We set a goal to make it to CIF and we've made it."

Rancho Alamitos earned its first Garden Grove League victory of the season, defeating host Bolsa Grande, 51-8, Friday night. Mike Pounds put Rancho Alamitos (2-6, 1-3 in league) on the scoreboard halfway through the first quarter on a one-yard run. The Vaqueros then capitalized on a Bolsa Grande fumble at the Matador 25-yard line, recovering it and scoring on the next play, when Matt Hildreth caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Daniel Green.

Los Amigos built a 20-0 lead and overcame its mistakes, as well as a tenacious Bolsa Grande team, to earn a 20-7 victory over the Matadors Thursday at Bolsa Grande High. The Lobos (3-4 overall, 3-1 in league), who put themselves in position to take the third playoff spot from the Garden Grove League, scored on their first play from scrimmage. Aoatoa Sualua ripped off a 71-yard run after breaking a tackle in the backfield.

Bolsa Grande stopped a 21-game losing streak dating to 1997 with an 18-0 victory over La Quinta Thursday at Bolsa Grande High. Both teams entered the game 0-5. The Matadors had not won since defeating La Quinta two seasons ago and the Aztecs had been outscored, 255-7, in their first five games after winning eight times and making the playoffs last season. La Quinta (0-6, 0-3) actually had the first two opportunities to score.

Bolsa Grande held its homecoming festivities at halftime of Friday's Garden Grove League game against Pacifica, but it was the Mariners' Jeff Weber who left the field as king. The Pacifica senior ran for two touchdowns, returned a fumble for another, returned a free kick for a fourth, and kicked seven conversions and a field goal for a total of 34 points as the Mariners beat the Matadors, 66-0.

It didn't take the Bolsa Grande football team long to figure out that it was in for a long night Friday against Santa Ana. Alfred Guidry broke a 59-yard run on the Saints' first play from scrimmage, and Guidry rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns in a 36-6 nonleague victory at Santa Ana Stadium. Guidry's opening run might have been his most impressive. After finding little running room up the middle, Guidry escaped and went down the right sideline to the Bolsa Grande seven.

C.J. Zuniga rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns Thursday as Costa Mesa defeated Bolsa Grande, 47-0, handing the host Matadors their 18th consecutive loss. Zuniga took a delayed handoff and went 29 yards for a touchdown on the Mustangs' first possession. After Shaun Ferryman blocked a Bolsa Grande punt and returned it to the Matador 1, Zuniga got the call again and put Costa Mesa up 14-0 only 4:34 into the first quarter.

Kelly Coburn passed for 161 yards and three touchdowns as Westminster defeated Bolsa Grande, 33-13, in a season opener Friday night at Bolsa Grande High. The Lions, who led 33-0 at one point, overcame seven fumbles and 165 yards in penalties. After fumbling the ball away on its opening possession, Westminster scored on its next four possessions to take a 27-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
