Kristen Wilson is looking to get picked up. More specifically, she's anxiously waiting for word about whether her new CBS series, "Matt Waters," will be returning to the fall lineup. The drama, which premiered Jan. 3 and is set at an urban high school, begins what's likely to be a promising 1996 for Wilson, who made her first big splash last year playing fellow thespian Robin Givens in HBO's "Tyson." "My characters are all very different," Wilson, 25, says from her Manhattan digs.

Currently the Director of Dance at the Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels (former home of Maurice Bejart's Ballet of the 20th Century), Mark Morris, 33, is a dancer and choreographer with extensive folk, modern and ballet experience. In the 1980s, he choreographed for companies including Batsheva Dance Company of Israel, Boston Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and his own Dance Group, formed in 1980. In 1984 his company appeared in the prestigious "Next Wave" series at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

John Hart, 64, a former ballet master and assistant director of England's Royal Ballet, has been chosen as the new artistic director for Utah's Ballet West, the company announced Wednesday. He succeeds Bruce Marks, who left the company in June to be become artistic director of the Boston Ballet. Hart's career began in London in 1938 when he joined Sadler's Wells Ballet (now the Royal Ballet) as a principal dancer.

It's an international melting pot, that line outside the McDonald's chuck wagon at the Rose Bowl's World Cup food cart. Waiting patiently for their sack of Big Macs were Fernando Bujones and his wife Maria, two ballet instructors who are in Pasadena mixing business with their love of soccer. Bujones, 39, a guest artist with the Boston Ballet and a serious Brazil fan, is attempting to "squeeze in 15 to 20" World Cup matches between tour stops during the next month.

Dance historian and writer Olga Maynard will be paid tribute through speech and dance at Cypress College on Sunday. The event, sponsored by the Orange County High School of the Arts, will honor Maynard's 32 years in the field, including teaching at UC Irvine for 20 years and writing for Dance Magazine since 1957. (Maynard plans to retire from the UCI dance department on July 1.) Guest speakers will include Willam Christensen, founder and former artistic director of Ballet West in Utah; Gerald Arpino, artistic director of the Joffrey Ballet; Bruce Marks, artistic director of the Boston Ballet; Clayton Garrison, founding dean of the UCI School of Fine Arts and currently head of the music theater program, and choreographer Norbert Vesak.

In a move to increase its range of dance offerings and reach a wider audience, the Orange County Performing Arts Center will present a four-day, $10-a-ticket dance festival bringing 11 companies to the center in October. "We wanted to make sure that there were no economic barriers and encourage the broadest and most diverse audiences possible," OCPAC President Terrence Dwyer said this week.
