Bill Parcells has suddenly become a hot commodity again in the NFL. In an off-season that has already featured more than its share of unexpected twists, here's yet another one: Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is going hard after the 70-year-old former coach and executive to "run the show" in Minnesota, according to the New York Post. Parcells, whose last NFL job as executive vice president of football operations with the Miami Dolphins ended midseason in 2010, has been rumored to be a candidate for the New Orleans Saints' interim coaching job if his close friend Sean Payton's one-year suspension is upheld.

Two days before his 38th birthday, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brad Johnson was the one handing out a present, giving the game ball to new head Coach Brad Childress after a 19-16 victory over the host Washington Redskins Monday night. Ryan Longwell's 31-yard field goal with one minute left accounted for the winning margin, as the Redskins lost their chance to tie when kicker Joe Hall missed a 48-yard field-goal attempt with 12 seconds left.

Wade Phillips is out in Dallas. Brad Childress is in (for now) in Minnesota. And Donovan McNabb has to wonder just where he stands in Washington. All of a sudden, the Oakland Raiders are the well-adjusted ones. That's the way it has gone so far in this topsy-turvy NFL season, when drama and controversies are percolating in some unexpected places. Weren't the Cowboys and Vikings supposed to be Super Bowl favorites? Wasn't the combination of McNabb and Mike Shanahan going to finally make good on all the promise the Redskins have been selling the last decade?

Childress and team officials didn't immediately respond to messages seeking confirmation of the decision.
