Randy Moss' reunion with the Minnesota Vikings lasted 25 days ? and three disappointing losses. Vikings players confirmed Monday that Coach Brad Childress informed them during a team meeting that Moss had been let go, a few minutes after the NFL Network first reported the Vikings had waived the frustrated wide receiver less than a month after acquiring him in a trade with New England. Childress and team officials didn't immediately respond to messages seeking confirmation of the decision.

Bill Parcells has suddenly become a hot commodity again in the NFL. In an off-season that has already featured more than its share of unexpected twists, here's yet another one: Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is going hard after the 70-year-old former coach and executive to "run the show" in Minnesota, according to the New York Post. Parcells, whose last NFL job as executive vice president of football operations with the Miami Dolphins ended midseason in 2010, has been rumored to be a candidate for the New Orleans Saints' interim coaching job if his close friend Sean Payton's one-year suspension is upheld.

Wearing his familiar purple No. 84 jersey, wide receiver Randy Moss practiced with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, a day after he was acquired from the New England Patriots in a trade his new team hopes will get it right back in the Super Bowl conversation. " With owners Zygi and Mark Wilf watching from the sideline, Moss caught passes from Brett Favre and talked to offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell as he prepared for Monday night's game at the New York Jets.

Wade Phillips is out in Dallas. Brad Childress is in (for now) in Minnesota. And Donovan McNabb has to wonder just where he stands in Washington. All of a sudden, the Oakland Raiders are the well-adjusted ones. That's the way it has gone so far in this topsy-turvy NFL season, when drama and controversies are percolating in some unexpected places. Weren't the Cowboys and Vikings supposed to be Super Bowl favorites? Wasn't the combination of McNabb and Mike Shanahan going to finally make good on all the promise the Redskins have been selling the last decade?

The New England Patriots traded seven-time Pro Bowl receiver Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday for a third-round draft pick. "He is a tremendous competitor and was an integral member of the Vikings organization," Vikings Coach Brad Childress said in a statement. "Once again, ownership was completely supportive of our efforts to add a valuable football player to our team. I know the entire organization is thrilled to welcome him back to the Twin Cities. " The Vikings play at the New York Jets on Monday night, and they are only 3 1/2 weeks away from an Oct. 31 game at Foxborough, Mass.

Brett Favre will start at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings in their exhibition game at San Francisco on Sunday and play a series or two, Coach Brad Childress said Friday in Eden Prairie, Minn. Favre, who returned to the Vikings on Tuesday after weeks of uncertainty about whether he would retire, said he needs to be in a game. "There's no substitute for calling plays in the huddle in a real game environment, and the only way I'm going to get the speed of the game down is being in games," he said.
