In the final desperate days of campaign 2008, as their shot at the White House slipped away, John McCain and Sarah Palin railed against the Los Angeles Times. The Republicans insisted the newspaper had a secret video that would prove Barack Obama consorted with leftists. Ever since, it has become an article of faith in outposts of the political right that the hidden “Khalidi video” includes absolute proof that the 44th president has a warm embrace for radicals and those who hate the state of Israel.

WASHINGTON -- Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney says he expects a “vast left-wing conspiracy” in the media to attack him in an effort to boost President Obama's chances of being re-elected. “There will be an effort by the, quote, vast left-wing conspiracy to work together to put out a message and to attack me," Romney said in an interview with Breitbart.com's Larry O'Connor. "And they're going to do everything they can to divert from the issue people care about, which is a growing economy that creates more jobs and rising incomes.

If you followed #SOTU on Twitter while watching the State of the Union address on Tuesday, you may have been surprised by how many smart pundits -- conservative and liberal -- spent more time obsessing over President Obama's and House Speaker John A. The video billed as Andrew Breitbart's last project is posted on the late conservative provocateur's website. It is so far provoking outrage from some corners and yawns from others. The footage of a Harvard law student protest in 1991 captures then-Harvard Law Review president Barack Obama speaking in support of a professor who had launched a campaign to push the school to hire more minority women to its faculty. Former Harvard professor Derrick Bell, the first black tenured professor at the institution, was eventually fired after refusing to come back from a leave over the issue of minority hiring.

Commentator and editor Andrew Breitbart, a polarizing website publisher who once helped edit the Drudge Report and found his way to tea party stardom in recent years, died of heart failure and hardening of the arteries, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said Friday. Coroner's officials deemed the death "natural," and toxicology tests detected no illicit drugs or elevated blood-alcohol level in Breitbart's system. Breitbart collapsed near his Westwood home March 1. He was 43. "He was walking near the house somewhere....He was taken by paramedics to UCLA, and they couldn't revive him," Breitbart's father-in-law, actor Orson Bean, told The Times.

The Senate voted Monday to block the Housing and Urban Development Department from giving grants to ACORN, a community organization under fire in voter-registration fraud cases. The 83-7 vote came as ACORN , which stands for the Assn. of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is receiving bad publicity related to surreptitious videos. Two conservative activists posed as a prostitute and her pimp, then released a hidden-camera video in which ACORN employees in Baltimore advised the couple on house-buying and how to account for the woman's income on tax forms.
