A newscaster accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl pleaded no contest to the charge Friday in Ventura County Superior Court. Bruce G. Bernhart, a 39-year-old anchorman at radio station KNX in Los Angeles, pleaded no contest to one count of child molestation, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Mark Pachowicz. The girl told Simi Valley police that the incident occurred while she was being interviewed for a baby-sitting job June 19 at Bernhart's Simi Valley home.

A former newscaster with KNX Radio in Los Angeles was sentenced Friday to 90 days in jail for molesting a 13-year-old baby-sitter. Bruce Bernhart, 39, of Simi Valley had pleaded no contest to one count of child molestation in August. Investigators said that on June 19, Bernhart blindfolded the girl on the pretext of playing a game, then put her hand on his penis. A veteran KNX-AM news reporter and anchorman was arrested in the middle of his nightly newscast on suspicion of molesting a 13-year-old girl, Simi Valley police said Thursday. Simi Valley police detectives arrived at the Hollywood radio station about 8 p.m. Wednesday to arrest reporter Bruce Bernhart, but at the request of station officials, waited until another KNX reporter was found to fill in for the remainder of the newscaster's on-air shift, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Bob Klamser.

A Los Angeles newscaster accused of committing lewd acts with a 13-year-old girl was ordered Friday to stand trial in Ventura County Superior Court. After a preliminary hearing, Ventura County Municipal Judge John J. Hunter ruled that there is enough evidence to warrant trial for Bruce G. Bernhart, 39, a newscaster at radio station KNX-AM. The girl told police that she went to Bernhart's home in Simi Valley to interview for a baby-sitting job.
