Every day, a phone call, news story or piece of paperwork takes Merry Lynn Balatico back to the day a gunman calmly pushed open the doors of a Xerox Corp. warehouse, sought out Balatico's husband, five co-workers and their supervisor, and shot them, one by one. Much of what happened in a conference room of that warehouse Nov. 2, 1999, has been left to Balatico's imagination--until now.

A copier repairman walked into a Xerox office here Tuesday morning and calmly trained a 9-millimeter handgun on his co-workers, firing and killing seven men. The suspected gunman then fled, surrendering only after five hours of strained negotiations with police. Police said Byran Uyesugi, 40, entered the Xerox engineering center just after 8 a.m., headed to the second floor and picked out two men in an office, shooting them at close range.

The Xerox copier repairman charged with gunning down seven of his co-workers in Honolulu pleaded not guilty to all nine counts of a grand jury indictment. A Circuit Court judge then revoked Byran Uyesugi's $7-million bond and set a Jan. 18 trial date. Uyesugi, 40, is accused of a shooting outburst Nov. 2 at a Xerox Corp. parts warehouse. Six of his fellow technicians and a supervisor were killed.
