The shops and restaurants along Disney California Adventure's re-themed entrance promenade will pay homage to the Los Angeles that Walt Disney encountered upon his 1923 arrival. When the main esplanade reopens in 2012, Buena Vista Street will reflect the Spanish Revival, Arts & Crafts and Art Deco architecture of the 1920s and '30s-era Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Pasadena and Wilshire Boulevard areas of the city. > Photos: Concept art of Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure The names of the Buena Vista Street shops will draw inspiration from Walt Disney's personal history and the animated characters created by his movie studio.

Two things consistently stand out for me about Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. First, the stepped-into-Oz themed land is so wonderfully immersive I always have to remind myself Anaheim is just behind the enveloping Cadillac Range. Second, the chock-a-block neon gulch exuberance of Cars Land flies in the face of every standard the famously fastidious Walt Disney set for his theme park empire. > Photos: Cars Land Christmas at Disney California Adventure The arrival of the first Cars Land Christmas combines both that whimsy and mayhem into a delightfully delirious twist on the traditional holiday festivities.

When California Adventure opened in 2001, it was a baffling disappointment. Fans of Disneyland, legion and devoted, eagerly sought a wild and whimsical sister-planet and instead found something that resembled theme park as learning center - far too much space was devoted to approximations of various California topography and businesses, far too little to rides. More important, there were few, if any references to the films and characters that turned Disneyland into the Happiest Place on Earth.

An onslaught of visitors eager to see the new Cars Land area could force periodic closures of Disney California Adventure over the next two weekends. REVIEWS:  Cars Land  |  Radiator Springs Racers  |  Mater's Junkyard Jamboree  |  Luigi's Flying Tires  | Buena Vista Street The next two Sundays, June 17 and 24, appear to be the most worrisome dates on the calendar for park officials when up to a million annual passholders - in addition to regular park visitors - could inundate the Anaheim theme park.

Mater's Junkyard Jamboree combines an old-fashioned whip ride with a spinning teacup platform to deliver a truckload of thrills much wilder than you might expect from its mild appearance. The C-Ticket family ride is one of three new attractions opening June 15 in the 12-acre Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. A civilian Los Angeles County sheriff's volunteer was arrested Thursday on suspicion of slapping and sexually molesting a Tujunga woman after using a police-style flashing red light to halt her car, Burbank police reported. Nikki Amorosino, 39, was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail on suspicion of felony sexual battery, said Sgt. Don Goldberg. Arraignment is scheduled Monday in Burbank Municipal Court, he said. The 39-year-old victim, who is married to a California Highway Patrol officer, was treated for bruises and scratches at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank following the 8 a.m. Wednesday attack, Goldberg said.

Dear Traffic Talk: There is a traffic signal in Burbank for motorists on northbound Buena Vista Street as they approach San Fernando Boulevard (north of the railroad tracks). During the early afternoon, the sun blasts the left-turn signal, making it difficult to see when it turns green. Is it possible to move the light, or shield it somehow so that it may be seen when the sun is shining directly on the arrow?
