Restaurants, bars and nightclubs will be allowed to stay open an hour later under a trial program aimed at bringing late-night order to downtown streets. The City Council agreed to let downtown businesses stay open until 3 a.m., 90 minutes after they stop selling alcohol.

Today is Memorial Day. The following schedule will be in effect: Schools: Public schools, community colleges, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton and Chapman University will be closed. Mail: No delivery and post offices will be closed. Libraries: Most will be closed. Banks: Most will be closed. Public transportation: Orange County Transportation Authority buses will run on a holiday schedule; (800) 636-RIDE. Metrolink trains will not run. Trash collection: Trash will not be picked up.
