Freed, who has a 4.1 grade-point average, was All-Southern Section in soccer, league most valuable player in volleyball and pitched 10 no-hitters as Pacifica won the Division III softball title. Boys--C.C. Sabathia, Vallejo. Sabathia, 6 feet 7, 235 pounds, caught 27 passes and had 14 sacks in football, led a 32-2 basketball team in rebounding and was the Cleveland Indians' No. 1 draft choice after going 9-1 and batting .563 in baseball.

Rondell White and Michael Cuddyer each had four runs batted in, and Justin Morneau scored four times to help the Minnesota Twins extend their latest winning streak to eight games with a 14-6 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night. Dennys Reyes (2-0) worked two-thirds of an inning for the win, Minnesota's 30th in its last 37 games. Cleveland fell to 2-6 since the All-Star break and is 3-10 since beating the New York Yankees 19-1 on July 4.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- David DeJesus homered and Kyle Davies pitched five strong innings Saturday night to spark Kansas City to a 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians. The Royals had lost 12 in a row. Davies (1-0) gave up one run on five hits and became Kansas City's first winning pitcher since Zack Greinke on May 18. The Royals, who started the game with the fewest runs, sacrifice flies, runs batted in and walks in the major leagues, beat reigning Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Casey Blake had a grand slam and six runs batted in and C.C. Sabathia struck out 11 in his first victory, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 15-1 rout of the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Blake, the No. 9 batter, was four for four with a single, the grand slam and two RBI doubles in the Indians' 17-hit attack.

CLEVELAND -- Manager Eric Wedge is certain he has never before seen what his Cleveland Indians' starters are accomplishing. C.C. Sabathia pitched a five-hitter and struck out 11 in the Indians' major league-leading seventh shutout, a 2-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night. Cleveland starters have pitched 43 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings since Friday. "It's pretty special stuff what they're putting together right now," Wedge said.

C.C. Sabathia and Justin Verlander squared off in a marquee matchup of starting candidates for next week's All-Star game. The Detroit Tigers knocked some of the luster off Sabathia's sensational season. Gary Sheffield, Carlos Guillen and Placido Polanco hit homers against Sabathia on Thursday, giving Detroit a 12-3 win over Cleveland and contributing to the pitcher's worst game of the year and the Indians' most lopsided loss of the season.
