CAIRO - Egyptian authorities have enacted a new law that makes it impossible for results in the upcoming presidential election to be disputed in court, a presidential advisor said Saturday. The measure was approved by the country's interim President Adly Mansour as part of final preparations for a presidential vote this spring. The presumed front-runner, Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah Sisi, has yet to declare his candidacy. The vote was to have been held by mid-April, but the weeks-long delay in wroking out the election law makes that highly unlikely.

Eloise Gomez Reyes' frustration seemed to leap off the pages of her recent complaint letter to the head of the California Democratic Party. She described how she had tried repeatedly to address local party clubs about her candidacy for a hotly contested congressional seat in the Inland Empire, only to learn four of those organizations had endorsed a rival, Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar. The backing, announced by the Aguilar campaign, "suggests that information needed to participate fully in the Democratic Club endorsement process has intentionally been withheld" from other candidates, Reyes, a Colton attorney and first-time candidate, said in her letter.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Wendy Davis, who rocketed to overnight political celebrity by temporarily blocking passage of antiabortion legislation in Texas, said Friday she was “very, very seriously considering” an uphill run next year for governor. Speaking to an audience of about 300 female activists and donors -- who cheered the mere mention of a Davis candidacy -- the Democratic state senator said, “It's about time that we have a general election conversation” that dispels the notion of Texas as a right-wing fortress.

CHICAGO - Hyun-Jin Ryu deserves to be in contention for the National League rookie of the year award, Manager Don Mattingly said Friday. “I think he should be considered,” Mattingly said. “He's throwing the ball really well, he's been consistent pretty much every time out. I'm sure he'll be part of it if he continues to pitch the way he's continued to pitch.” Before the start of the season, Ryu said his goal was to win 10 games in his rookie year.
