John Davis overcame a hand injury suffered in the semifinals to pitch Riverside Woodcrest Christian past top-seeded Lancaster Paraclete, 6-1, in the Southern Section Division 5 championship baseball game on Saturday at the Riverside Sports Complex. Davis needed nine stitches after he was spiked on his throwing hand in a semifinal victory over Hemet Tahquitz. But he struck out seven and allowed six hits against Paraclete. In the Division 6 final, Lancaster Desert Christian won its first title after a 4-2, eight-inning victory over Capistrano Valley Christian.

Woodland Hills Taft, emerging as the City Section Division I title favorite, routed Southern Section power Los Angeles Loyola, 73-57. Fairfax defeated Rialto Eisenhower, 73-67. And Westchester defeated Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley, 45-42. "I think it means the City is still strong and can still compete with the big dogs," Taft guard Steven Jones said.
