Cedar Point plans to turn the Ohio theme park's Million Dollar Midway into the $6-million Luminosity nighttime spectacular complete with lights, lasers and fireworks tied to a stage performance with DJs, dancers and drummers. PHOTOS: Luminosity nighttime spectacular at Cedar Point Debuting on June 8, the 40-minute Luminosity: Ignite the Night stage show will be followed by a pyrotechnics finale that leads into a DJ street party designed to turn the midway into an enormous dance floor.

Gunshots of unknown origin struck two girls in a pool jammed with thousands of visitors to a theme park Sunday, killing one of them and leaving the other, a 6-year-old, critically injured, officials said. "At this point, we have no witnesses who can identify where the gunfire came from," Mecklenburg County Assistant Police Chief R. D. Ferrell said.

A man told police in Charlotte, N.C., that he had been target shooting about a half-mile from a crowded theme park when a 16-year-old girl was shot to death and another wounded Sunday by what police say may have been stray bullets. Police said that the unidentified man, who was not arrested, was using a Russian-made AK-47 rifle, the type of weapon that killed Michelle Ann Sexton of Rock Hill, S.C., and wounded Ahesha Shanelle Rollins, 6, at the Carowinds amusement park.

Southern California is not the only place where Native American-themed attractions are found, according to Tim O'Brien, an editor at the trade magazine Amusement Business. Six Flags Over Mid-America, in Eureka, Mo., features an Indian village area that focuses on early interactions between Native Americans and French colonial explorers, O'Brien said. The Missouri attraction has been open since the late 1970s.

California's Great America has announced plans to remove the third coaster in less than a decade – a period in which no new coasters were added to the amusement park in Santa Clara, Calif. Invertigo , an inverted shuttle coaster that made its debut in 1998, will be removed to make room for a new attraction planned for 2012, officials said. In 2002, the Greased Lightning looping shuttle coaster was removed from Great America and relocated to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo in Northern Caifornia.
