WASHINGTON--Richard Sybert, a senior aide to Gov. Pete Wilson and an experienced Los Angeles County Republican activist, said Monday that he is seriously exploring the prospect of challenging Democratic Rep. Anthony C. Beilenson for the congressional seat representing Thousand Oaks. In a bid to establish immediate political credibility, Sybert has loaned $310,000 of his own funds to an exploratory committee.

Hoping to bolster support for a bill that would create a countywide waste authority, state Sen. Cathie Wright pitched the proposed legislation to the Ventura and Simi Valley city councils Monday night. In the first of a series of visits with local government officials, Wright (R-Simi Valley) outlined the plan for the authority and asked the councils for their approval.

Preparing for a last-minute burst of activity before Tuesday's primary, Marian W. La Follette has poured $149,000 of her own money into her campaign for an open state Senate seat, bringing the total amount she has loaned her campaign to $199,000. La Follette said she made a $50,000 loan to her campaign on Friday, followed by a $99,000 loan on Saturday, to blanket the 19th state Senate District with mass mailings of campaign brochures.
