Ecumenism is moving down the road from Idaho to Nevada and may soon hit Jackpot. No, the word the was not left out, Protestants and Catholics in Jackpot, Nev., have joined forces to provide a church building by moving a Catholic church from Idaho. The building will be used by both Protestants and Catholics and will be known as the Jackpot Community Church.

A Catholic priest in nearby Henderson was charged by county prosecutors Monday with abusing five teenage boys, including taking pornographic pictures of two of them. Father Mark Roberts, 51, faces two felony counts of using a minor in the production of pornography. He was also charged with two counts of lewdness for fondling two of the boys, and five counts of abuse and neglect of children. Each of those seven charges is a misdemeanor. The Diocese of Las Vegas suspended the priest Jan.

The Most Rev. Phillip F. Straling, the first Roman Catholic bishop of San Bernardino, was reassigned Tuesday by Pope John Paul II to become bishop of a newly created diocese of Reno. Straling, who has headed the Diocese of San Bernardino since it was organized in 1978, will assume his new duties in Reno at the end of June.

Parishioners at Our Lady of the Snows reacted with sadness and pride Tuesday to the announcement that their bishop, the Most Rev. Norman F. McFarland, will be leaving the Reno-Las Vegas Diocese to head the Diocese of Orange. Although priests began discussing the appointment at midday Masses on Monday, and the change had been reported by the local news media, Msgr. Leo McFadden's remarks after the 8 a.m. Mass on Tuesday were the first that some regular worshipers heard of the move.
