Cecilia Presley, the granddaughter of legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, is the newest member of Chapman University's board of trustees. Presley, who lives in Newport Beach, is a general partner of Motion Picture Associates and a director of the Cecil B. DeMille Foundation, which offers arts and other programs to abused children. The USC alumna, who was appointed to the university's board last month, also sits on the advisory board to Chapman's School of Film and Television.

Officials at USC's School of Cinematic Arts have warmly embraced the digital era in filmmaking, but they also realize that silent movies are golden. On Monday evening, the school held a dedication for the Cecil B. DeMille Endowed Chair in Silent Film. Cecilia DeMille Presley, granddaughter of the man who made 1952's Oscar-winner "The Greatest Show on Earth" and 1956's "The Ten Commandments," was on hand to talk to USC cinema students about DeMille and to screen his erotic 1915 melodrama "The Cheat.

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Berle Vows to Beat Colon Cancer: Milton Berle has a small cancerous tumor in his colon, but doctors have decided against surgery. The comedian, who turns 93 in July, is "actually doing very well. He's doing fine," Berle's wife, Lorna, said Wednesday. "It's a small tumor in his colon. He isn't scheduled for any surgery, but that could always change. He is in no pain." She added that Berle has vowed to win his cancer battle and is looking forward to reaching at least 100.

Debra Winger's voice is etched with affection and melancholy as she recalls her deep friendship with James Bridges, the man who directed the actress to stardom in 1980's "Urban Cowboy." "I guess you know he was sort of my mentor," says Winger of Bridges, who died of cancer in 1993 at the age of 57. "He was a combination of every male relationship that you ever have in your life," Winger says.
