Wini Jackson, force of nature, kisses her way down one side of a long luncheon table and up the other. There's a hug and a squeeze for Mr. Redfud, still regal after all these years. There's a whisper and a laugh and a second hug for Miss Cornwell, still having her way with words. When Jackson finishes one table, she goes on to the next. By the time she's done, there's not a dry cheek in the house. Or many eyes, either.

A Corona high school teacher charged with having sex with five teenage boys sent naked pictures of herself to one student and committed a sex act in a classroom with another student moments after school concluded, authorities say. Summer Michelle Hansen, 31, a special-education teacher at Centennial High School, was charged last week with 16 felony counts involving sex acts with five boys younger than 18 within one year. None were students she taught regularly. Riverside County prosecutors allege that from May 2012 to May 2013, Hansen committed sexual acts with the teenagers, who were as young as 16, in her classroom, in a campus utility room, in her vehicle parked near a youth's home and at the home of one of the teenagers.

The Western Assn. of Schools and Colleges, which accredits public high schools in California, did not renew Centennial's certification because it failed to meet the association's educational standards, said association Executive Director David Brown.

Pep squad members at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach seemed to have forgotten the meaning of school spirit when they voted to skip cheering at a recent football game at Centennial High School in Compton because they were concerned about their safety. And for that lapse, those who stuck to their decision had to sit out another game Friday. When Principal John Giovati heard of their decision to pass on the Oct.

Students and parents at Corona's Centennial High School reacted with surprise and disbelief after prosecutors charged a female special education teacher with having sex with five teenage boys over the last year. Summer Michelle Hansen, 31, was charged Tuesday with 16 felony counts involving sex acts with five teenagers younger than 18, none of whom were students in her life skills class. “I really hope it's not true, because that would be really sad,” Marrisa Byers, a student at the high school, told KTLA-TV.

Dodgers draft picks Chris Anderson and Tom Windle sat next to each other in the team's dugout Wednesday afternoon. No. 13 jerseys donned, the two young pitchers formed a potential look into the Dodgers' future before a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, it was also a look into the past. Anderson and Windle both played  in the Northwest Suburban Conference in Minnesota and were the top two players listed in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune's conference most-valuable-player race three years ago. “We've known each other since we were very little, which is pretty cool,” Anderson said.

The mother of a Compton high school student killed by gang cross-fire in January presented college scholarships to 12 of her daughter's classmates during Wednesday's graduation ceremonies at Centennial High School. Loretta Thomas-Davis, one of three panelists to select the award recipients, gave out $4,300 in grants. The money came from nationwide contributions to a scholarship fund set up after her 17-year-old daughter, Corie Williams, was shot aboard a bus Jan. 16.

I am a graduate of Centennial High School. Over the years, I have watched one scandal after another from my alma mater. I read Dick Wagner's article about Coach Tony Cruz (Times, June 12). The article was very enlightening. I don't know anything about Coach Cruz, but I have a nephew who attends Centennial. He is a member of the football team. He states he is attending Centennial to play football, and if he gets an education while he is playing football, well, that will be fine.
