Charlton Heston said Friday he is ready to run for an unprecedented fifth term as president of the National Rifle Assn. After addressing members at the 131st annual meeting here, Heston 78, said he has been encouraged by their continued support for his leadership. "As long as I don't screw it up completely, I suppose I'll keep coming back," Heston said. NRA members elect a national board of directors today. The more than 70 board directors vote Monday on a president.

Once when Calvin Griffith still owned the Minnesota Twins, Manager Gene Mauch was trying to convince him to sign relief pitcher Mike Marshall to a multiyear contract. Said Mauch: "Don't worry about his age. Mike is a freak." Said Griffith, screaming: "I know he's a freak. That's why I don't want to sign him!"
