Chelsea Clinton's transition from an intensely private to a "purposefully public life" became complete Monday night with the former first daughter's debut as a correspondent on NBC's "Rock Center with Brian Williams. " (see video below) Clinton was hired by the broadcaster to tape some of its signature, feel-good "Making a Difference" segments, and her first offering was true to type. She returned to the state her father had governed for more than a decade to tell the story of Annette Dove, whose personal crusade has been to help disadvantaged youth in the city of Pine Bluff, Ark. In the piece is a rare glimpse at Clinton's own personal life.

Re your Feb. 5 news item concerning the Clintons' attempts to shield Chelsea from media exposure: What was not pointed out was the sheer hypocrisy of this position. Chelsea has accompanied her parents on official visits, at taxpayer expense, to Asia, Africa and Europe. That makes her a public person. If Bill and Hillary were concerned for her privacy, they would have left her home. ROSEMARY RAMSAY Walnut

As far as this village is concerned, this weekend is a chance to celebrate what may be as close to a royal wedding as it gets in a country that lacks an aristocracy of its own. Sometime Saturday, Chelsea Clinton, the only child of former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, is expected to marry investment banker Marc Mezvinsky at a 50-acre estate along the Hudson River with the mountains a distant backdrop....

NBC's newest correspondent fits the profile of a lot of other network news hires — bright, articulate and educated at America's best colleges. She's also unlike other network news hires — having lived for eight years in the White House and done little to veil her suspicion of the media. So it was with more than a little carping and some outright disdain that professional journalists and other Washington observers greeted Chelsea Clinton's ascension to a prime-time television perch.

President-elect Bill Clinton announced Tuesday that his 12-year-old daughter, Chelsea, will attend an exclusive private school in northwest Washington, calling the move a "family decision" and not a statement about the city's troubled public schools. "They didn't reject public schools," George Stephanopoulos, communications director for the Clinton transition, said. "The schools in the District of Columbia and across the country are good schools and Gov.

Some people have to do everything with flair, and their wedding is no exception. Or make that flare. After all, there were fireworks when you first met — shouldn’t there be sparks at your nuptials, too? Whether it’s pyrotechnics in the sky, sparklers as décor or confetti poppers as favors, let the Fourth of July inspire a bit of snap, crackle and pop on your special day. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated their vows with fireworks. So did Katy Perry and Russell Brand.

Deep within the labyrinth of the L.A. Times building there's a tiny office hidden in a dank basement corner. Its purpose is so top- secret that even the publisher doesn't know it exists. It's the newspaper's Anti-Futurology Dept., and its mission is to report on things that haven't happened yet, and probably never will. This department isn't known for its high productivity. In fact, this is the first, and hopefully the last, article it ever will generate. But, wanting to get a jump on the competition a decade from now -- including Fox News, Gawker and no doubt a couple of future bloggers currently enrolled in middle school -- we've asked the department's intrepid staff to round up the entertainment and cultural highlights of 2020.

Chelsea Clinton was hospitalized Tuesday night "as a precautionary measure" after catching the flu and released Wednesday morning, a White House spokeswoman said. President-elect Barack Obama and his wife have decided that their two daughters will attend Sidwell Friends School, a private institution that Chelsea Clinton attended as first daughter a decade ago. "A number of great schools were considered," said Katie McCormick Lelyveld, a spokeswoman for the president-elect's wife, Michelle. "In the end, the Obamas selected the school that was the best fit for what their daughters need right now." She said Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, "bring with them a number of security and privacy concerns that come with being part of the new first family -- and the school they've selected is positioned to appropriately accommodate that."
