Galaxy defensive midfielder Dema Kovalenko will sit out the match while serving a one-game suspension.

Record vs. Rapids: 0-1. Update: Chivas is only two games under .500, but it has slipped to seventh in the West and is 11 points behind the Galaxy, Seattle and Vancouver for the final playoff spot. The team's problem? Offense. Chivas has scored a league-worst 14 goals this season and was shut out for the eighth time this year in a 4-0 loss to the Galaxy on Sunday.

Update: Chivas USA has its work cut out if it hopes to pull out of a late-season meltdown that has seen it go 0-6-2 in its last eight games. Chivas will have Coach Robin Fraser back on the sidelines after serving a one-game suspension, but it will be without midfielder Oswaldo Minda (yellow card accumulation)

When: 8 p.m. Saturday Where: Jeld-Wen Field On the air: TV: KWHY, Prime Ticket Records: Chivas USA 6-8-5, Portland 5-11-4 Record vs. Portland: 3-1 Update: Coming off a 3-1 loss to the Galaxy last weekend, Chivas USA has a chance to rebound on the road against a team that it has already defeated twice this season. Three of Chivas' six wins this season have come on the road, including a win a Jeld-Wen Field on April 7. Chivas also won the most recent meeting between the two clubs at the Home Depot center on July 18. Between the two matches, Portland fired its head coach, John Spencer, and replaced him with Gavin Wilkinson on an interim basis.

Update: Chivas USA, officially eliminated Wednesday from a playoff race it unofficially exited more than a month ago, can all but end FC Dallas' postseason hopes as well with a win Sunday. But Chivas would have to score to accomplish that, and the Western Conference cellar-dwellers haven't found the back of the net in their last 532 minutes, the fourth-longest scoreless streak in MLS history.

Chivas USA and its coach, Robin Fraser, were both slapped on the wrist -- gently -- Thursday when Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber leveled penalties for actions taken in last Saturday's game with the Philadelphia Union at the Home Depot Center. Two Philadelphia players were ejected for hard tackles in the second half and after the second foul -- charged against Gabriel Farfan in the 85th minute -- Chivas USA's Blair Gavin and Dan Kennedy rushed over to confront Farfan.
