Honda issued a rare apology on Friday to frustrated customers who were having difficulty grabbing one of its 1,100 all-electric Fit EV cars. Honda has seen a rush of interest in the low-volume model since dropping the lease price in late May, to $259 from $389. The deal requires no money down, has no mileage limit, and includes a free in-home charger and collision insurance. One Santa Monica dealership said it had three of the cars sitting on the lot for months. Just after Honda's announcement, all three were snatched up by customers in a single morning and a waiting list formed.

INDIO - "Thank you, Coachella!" shouted Charles Kelley from the main stage Saturday night at Stagecoach - and, sure, he might've been referring to the desert valley in which the Empire Polo Club is located. More likely, though, was that Lady Antebellum's frontman momentarily forgot which festival he was headlining. You couldn't really blame him. One of country's most openly pop-oriented outfits, Lady Antebellum doesn't share much with the surly Toby Keith (who topped Friday night's bill)

Honda Motor Co. will recall 204,500 CR-V crossovers, Odyssey minivans and Acura RDX crossovers to replace a safety component. During internal testing of the vehicles, Honda discovered that in subfreezing temperatures it could be possible to shift the vehicle's transmission out of the park position without depressing the brake pedal. “This hasn't actually happened on a vehicle that is in customers' hands,” said Honda spokesman Chris Martin. “We have done it on vehicles that we own and test.” PHOTOS: Top 10 cars with lowest cost per mpg Martin said the possibility of such an occurrence creates the risk that a passenger could accidently shift the vehicle into drive.

A faulty airbag part that can explode and send shrapnel into the passenger cabin is responsible for the global recall of more than 3 million cars manufactured by Honda, Nissan, Toyota and General Motors and will likely lead to more recalls. The problem was reported to Japanese safety regulators late Wednesday night, but since the part manufactured by Takata Corp. is used internationally, it probably affects more automakers. “Takata supplies a lot of U.S. manufacturers too,” said Michelle Krebs, an analyst with auto information company Edmunds.com.

Critiquing the broadcast of the 12-12-12 Sandy benefit concert on Wednesday night is like assessing the food at a bake sale: Maybe the muffins are oversalted or the cookies are stale, but that's not the point. The point is charity and drawing attention to the cause. In the case of the concert at Madison Square Garden in New York, broadcast on dozens of cable networks, radio stations and websites, the goal was raising money for Superstorm Sandy relief, and the players were some of the monumental names of baby boomer rock and their progeny: the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, the Who, Roger Waters, Chris Martin and Eddie Vedder.

Coldplay will issue its first concert film/live album in nine years, the band announced Friday. “Live 2012” will arrive Nov. 19 on CD/DVD, and the release is taken from the band's acclaimed Mylo Xyloto world tour, which concludes in Australia at the end of the month. The set also includes footage from shows at Paris' Stade de France, Montreal's Bell Centre and last year's headlining performance at Glastonbury Festival. Before hitting stores, the film will have a one-off run in theaters at special screenings on Nov. 13. EMI/Parlophone and Arts Alliance Media teamed up with Screenvision to distribute the film to U.S. cinemas.
