(BNBN; close and change: $10.56, down 56 cents) was raised to "accumulate" from "hold" by Prudential Securities, with a $15 target. * Championship Auto Racing (MPH; $20, down 25 cents) was raised to "strong buy" from "hold" by CIBC World Markets Inc. * PepsiCo Inc. An investor group agreed to buy TNP Enterprises Inc., owner of Texas-New Mexico Power Co., an electric utility serving those two states, for about $1 billion in cash and assumed debt in the first leveraged buyout of a U.S. electric utility. The investor group, led by former Long Island Lighting Co. Chairman William Catacosinos and CIBC World Markets Inc., will assume $475 million in debt and take TNP private. TNP shareholders will get $44 in cash for each share, a 26% premium to Monday's close.

Cheesecake Factory Inc. shares fell 7.1% on Thursday after at least three analysts lowered their ratings on the Calabasas Hills-based company because it said second-quarter sales growth wouldn't meet Wall Street expectations. Bear Sterns & Co. dropped its rating to "peer perform" from "outperform," and Raymond James Financial Inc. lowered its rating to "outperform" from "strong buy." CIBC World Markets Inc.

Quest Software Inc., a database software company that made a spectacular stock market debut recently, saw its shares move up 9% Wednesday, a day after a report that the company's chairman bought 28,500 shares over six days in August. Quest shares closed at $54.50, up $4.50, after touching $58.88 earlier in the trading session. The stock also rose 9% on Tuesday.
