Fear this. For Lakers fans breathing a sigh of relief to see your team can still play . . . assuming someone hits it with a cattle prod . . . here's good news: There's someone out there even they may take seriously. Of course, it wouldn't be until the Finals . . . and it's only the Cleveland Cavaliers, who aren't that scary after the Lakers beat them twice.

While the rest of the NBA exchanges elbows, flagrant fouls and menacing stares in the playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking for a fight. So far, they can't find one. LeBron James scored 27 points, ending the first and second quarters with last-second baskets, and Mo Williams had 15 points as the host Cavaliers overpowered the Atlanta Hawks, 105-85, on Thursday night to open a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal.

The final blowout went to Atlanta, so it's the Hawks who'll get a shot at LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Joe Johnson scored 27 points to make up for a mostly disappointing series, and the Hawks won the first Game 7 ever played in Atlanta, beating Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat, 91-78, Sunday to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs for the first time in a decade. A series devoid of drama ended in appropriate fashion.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Cleveland's star of stars and rightful MVP to Be Who Has Earned the Award 10 Times Over convened a news conference before playing the Clippers, feeling great about himself and the world around him. So what if he missed 20 of 30 shots the last two games? "I like to show people I am human, sometimes," said LeBron James, grinning in a way that suggested he doesn't really think he is -- which he may not be.

First, it was Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway, then Shaq and Kobe Bryant, and Shaq and Dwyane Wade. . . . Next: Shaq and LeBron? OK, so it would be LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal. In whatever order, imagine the circus the Cleveland Cavaliers would be now if they had made the O'Neal deal they were so close to two weeks ago, in the Big Near Miss. Phoenix looked ready to do it for the low, low, bargain price of Wally Szczerbiak and Sasha Pavlovic. However, instead of Szczerbiak, whose $13.
