In the midst of the Clippers' 129-97 runaway victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday came the news that Caron Butler suffered a bruised left elbow. It was all going so well for the Clippers too, because they had seven players score in double figures, including all five starters. Even Butler had 15 points, five rebounds and three assists before he grabbed his elbow in pain at Staples Center. Butler went to the locker room with 3 minutes 58 seconds left in the third quarter and didn't return.

Something had to be done to slow down Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook , Oklahoma City's dynamic duo. So the Clippers switched from their man-to-man defense to a zone defense in the second half, and it worked enough to get them back into the game that L.A. eventually lost, 108-104, Sunday. Durant had 20 first-half points on seven-for-15 shooting, two for four on three-pointers. He finished with 35 points but was only three for 10 from the field in the second half, one for five from three-point range.

It is difficult to tell when Clippers guard Eric Bledsoe is up or down because he is so quiet. But Bledsoe acknowledged he has struggled with his confidence recently. On Sunday against the Boston Celtics, Bledsoe played as if he wasn't having any doubts in his abilities. Bledsoe tied his career high in points with 23 and field goals made at nine - he took 15 shots. He tied his season high in assists with 10, to go along with seven rebounds, in the Clippers' 106-104 loss.

TORONTO -- Matt Barnes didn't find out until after the Clippers' 11 a.m. shoot-around Friday that the NBA had suspended him for one game without play for striking Minnesota backup center Greg Stiemsma in the neck during Wednesday night's game. Barnes sat out the Clippers' loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. He had been ejected from the game Wednesday for a flagrant foul 2 after he shoved Stiemsma in the neck with 7 minutes 25 seconds left in the second quarter.

PHOENIX - Rather than talk about his disappointment in not being selected as a reserve on the Western Conference All-Star team, Clippers guard Jamal Crawford let others do the talking. Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro said Crawford should have been on the team as a reserve. But when the seven reserves were announced Thursday, Crawford's name was not called. "Obviously, we've got two guys in it," said Del Negro, referring to Chris Paul and Blake Griffin , who were voted in by the fans as starters.

The Clippers maintained they didn't look past the struggling Orlando Magic, a team that entered Saturday's game with a 10-game losing streak. But Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro was in no mood for any explanations his players had following a disturbing 104-101 loss to the Magic at Staples Center. In Del Negro's eyes, it should not have come down to Jamal Crawford's missing a potential tying three-point attempt as the buzzer sounded. And it didn't matter to Del Negro that Chris Paul appeared to injure his right knee late in the game, because the point guard continued to play while the Clippers were having their 13-game home win streak broken.

OAKLAND - Clippers forward Caron Butler did not play Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors because of personal reasons, the team announced. Butler was not with the team but is expected to be back for the game Friday night against the Lakers at Staples Center in the Clippers' designated home game. Matt Barnes , who was averaging 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds, started at small forward in place of Butler. Butler was averaging 10.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 31 starts.

OAKLAND - Double yikes. A Times columnist suggests the Lakers might have been looking past Philadelphia to a date with the Clippers in explaining the loss to the 76ers the other night. And now here we are in Oracle Arena for a "Warriors WhiteOut," everyone in the place given a white T-shirt and placard like this is going to be some kind of playoff game with the Clippers. The Clippers! It makes sense. Why waste such emotion on the Lakers? "It's big. Big," Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro says with more than a hint of sarcasm.

SALT LAKE CITY - Caron Butler is the starting small forward for the Clippers, but his backup is averaging more minutes per game. But Matt Barnes has been playing so well in the reserve role as Butler's backup that Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro seemingly has no choice but to use Barnes a little more. It's not an issue for Butler. "No matter what, I come in on days off and keep my rhythm and keep encouraging the younger guys," Butler said. "It's just staying in the moment.

Don't tell Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro that his team doesn't have room to improve, because he'll tell you otherwise. Don't tell Del Negro that his team is playing very well, because he'll tell you that his players still are making mistakes. Yes, Del Negro admitted, some of that is just a coach talking. But, he said, his players know that the season is still young and that they have a ways to go. "Sometimes when you win, as coaches, you still see mistakes and things that we have to get better at," Del Negro said.
