For Amy Lee and her friend Ashley Wright, the decision to organize the Los Angeles-based Rally to Restore Sanity was an easy one. All it took was the urging of Jon Stewart ? and tight finances. "We were having dinner together a few weeks ago, and we were talking about how we really wanted to go to the D.C. rally," said Lee, 38, who works in production and human resources. "But that's quite a trip. We couldn't afford to travel all that way. " Two weeks and a Facebook page later (with 3,100 followers to date)

CNN fired newscaster Rick Sanchez on Friday, a day after he called Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" a "bigot" and suggested that Jews run CNN and "all the other" networks. The host of "Rick's List" made the comments Thursday during an interview on the satellite radio show "Stand Up! With Pete Dominick. " Sanchez complained that Stewart was prejudiced against those who disagree with his "white liberal establishment point of view" and scoffed at the idea that Jews were "an oppressed minority.

Leading up to Friday morning's hearing of the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on immigration, the question had to be asked: What could be sillier than comedian Stephen Colbert testifying on farm labor and immigration? Surely the Congress of the United States of America would be sullied by the presence of this mere prankster, this entertainer, this clown, who would appear, audaciously, not as himself but as his fictional alter-ego, the bloviating right-wing talk show host.

UNDERRATED The 'Kids in the Hall' comeback: For a certain brand of comedy nerd (like us), the return of the Canadian sketch troupe for an eight-episode miniseries on IFC is like when the Eagles reunited, except with better music. Called "Death Comes to Town," the series finds all five original members — Mark, Bruce, Scott, Kevin and Dave — in multiple roles, revisiting some classic characters and devising new, equally twisted ones. Welcome back, Kids. Mogwai: Thirteen years removed from its punishing debut, "Young Team," we're surprised how well this Scottish instrumental band still delivers the goods.

Though last rites have been administered more than once, the situation comedy is the most resilient of television formats. Time-honored and stable, it is also highly adaptable, ranging easily in attitude from the sincere to the ironic, in form from the classical to the postmodern. The sitcom also has the practical merit of being comparatively economical and easy to make (which does not mean, of course, easy to make well), and after having been largely driven from the screen by reality shows and police procedurals, it is creeping back in around the edges.

Flanked by a squadron of dancing German maidens and swinging his best Vegas-ready groove, David Hasselhoff — former "Baywatch" star, European rock god, ex- "America's Got Talent" judge and drunken YouTube sensation — stormed into a packed Sony Studios soundstage and launched into a hearty rendition of the '70s classic "Hooked on a Feeling. " "I'm high on believing that you're in love with ME!" "The Hoff" crooned, maneuvering through a throng of cheering fans and celebrities for the taping of "The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff," which premieres Sunday on the cable network.
