Maybe the Rock and Triple H will serve as campaign managers. Linda McMahon, chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., announced Wednesday that she was resigning to run for the U.S. Senate in her home state of Connecticut. McMahon, a Republican, will look to unseat Democratic Sen. Christopher J. Dodd in the 2010 election. Although not nearly as flamboyant as her husband, WWE Chairman and ringmaster Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon is considered the brains behind the brawn.

West Virginia 34, at Syracuse 13: Noel Devine caught a touchdown pass and rushed for another score, Ryan Clarke scored on two short runs, and the Mountaineers (4-1, 1-0) beat the Orange (2-4, 0-2) for the eighth straight time.

at Connecticut 34, Louisville 25: Andre Dixon ran for 153 yards and three touchdowns and Connecticut beat Louisville for the Huskies first Big East win of the season. Cody Endres threw for 273 yards and a touchdown as the Huskies (4-2, 1-1) beat the Cardinals (2-4, 0-2) for the third consecutive season. Marcus Easley had 108 receiving yards, including a 16-yard touchdown on a screen pass from Endres that helped the Huskies blow open a 14-13 game with 17 third-quarter points. The Cardinals have lost nine of their last 10 games against Football Bowl Subdivision foes.

The Connecticut Supreme Court on Friday gave gay and lesbian couples the right to marry, ruling that civil unions relegate them to a "separate" and "inferior status" that falls short of full equality. "We therefore agree with the plaintiffs that 'maintaining a second-class citizen status for same-sex couples by excluding them from the institution of civil marriage' " violates the state's constitutional guarantee of equal protection of the laws, the state high court said.

A man who killed a jogger and hid her body on property owned by the performer who plays Big Bird on "Sesame Street" was sentenced in Danielson to life in prison without parole. Scott Deojay had been a caretaker for Carroll Spinney's property, where the bound body of Judith Nilan was found in a storage building in December 2005. Deojay initially told police he killed the 44-year-old middle school social worker by hitting her with his vehicle while she was jogging in Woodstock.
