Shannon Johnson scored 24 points and had six assists to lead the Connecticut Sun to an 84-70 victory over the Washington Mystics on Friday night. Johnson had 19 of her points in the first half, and Nykesha Sales finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Connecticut (4-2) controlled the inside game and recorded its second victory at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Coco Miller scored 17 points for Washington (2-4).

The WNBA is betting professional women's basketball will be successful in Connecticut. The former Orlando Miracle, a team led by former Connecticut standout Nykesha Sales, was purchased by the Mohegan Indian Tribe and became the Connecticut Sun, WNBA Commissioner Val Ackerman said Tuesday. The Sun will be the first independently owned and operated team in the WNBA.
