A man accused of stabbing a good Samaritan who intervened in a domestic dispute was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said Monday. The incident began at 11 p.m. Sunday in the 14000 block of Kittridge Street in Van Nuys, when Marvin Andrews, 38, was arguing with the mother of his 3-year-old child and turned violent, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against a Santa Ana man accused of punching and seriously injuring a good Samaritan who stopped to help after seeing him lying on the sidewalk. Jeffrey Davis, 34, faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life under the state's three-strikes law if he is convicted of assaulting Raymond Zimmerman. Orange County sheriff's officials said Zimmerman stopped to help Davis Friday afternoon after seeing him lying outside a supermarket in Stanton.

A 23-year-old Santa Ana man has been charged as the purse snatcher who allegedly gunned down a good Samaritan attempting to foil a petty street crime, police announced Thursday. Richard Chavarria was arrested over the weekend and appeared in court Monday to face charges that he shot and killed Margarito Pina Estrella, a Santa Ana man who lost his life July 7 after helping a 61-year-old woman whose purse was stolen.

A 24-year-old man, enlisted by his closest friend to help mediate a simmering dispute between two teenage boys, was shot to death at a Hollywood parking lot, and six suspects were booked on suspicion of his murder Monday, police and relatives said. Artur Karapetyan was killed at a shopping center at Sunset Boulevard and Western Avenue on Sunday night. "I wish you could have known him," said Karapetyan's sister, Armine. "He was an extraordinary person.

Calling a gang member's actions "unwarranted and callous," a Superior Court judge on Friday sentenced him to 38 years to life in prison for shooting to death a good Samaritan who tried to foil a purse snatching. Richard Chavarria, whose hands were handcuffed behind his back, showed no reaction as he was sentenced for the murder of 26-year-old Margarito Pina Estrella. The victim happened upon the purse snatching on his way home from church in July 1996.
