Re "FBI Hears Pellicano Threat," May 6 Your account of Cynthia Garvey's 1988 assault charge against Ron Meyer, president of Universal Studios, omitted some salient information. The story noted the district attorney's office did not pursue the case because of insufficient evidence. What the story did not say is that, as has been reported elsewhere, Garvey has a history of filing false claims of abuse at the hands of ex-lovers. Indeed, Garvey accepted a plea bargain after being charged with filing five false police reports against one such ex-boyfriend in 1996.

Call it a twisted case of love and war. In one corner is Westside restaurateur Hans Rockenwagner. In the other is Cyndy Truhan, former wife of onetime Dodgers star Steve Garvey. For nearly two years, the handsome blond couple dated. Now they are fighting each other in court over who allegedly stalked whom. Truhan, 46, is seeking a restraining order against Rockenwagner, calling him a "bully" who threatened and harassed her, and at one point "manhandled" her up a flight of stairs.

In the Sept. 24 cover story by Peter J. Boyer ("Mr. Clean's Mid-Life Crisis"), Steve Garvey aired his dirty laundry. Then, as a sequel, we were treated with Cynthia Garvey's one day in jail for contempt of court. This appears to be no more than an arrogant egomaniac seeking revenge on his ex-wife. Mr. Garvey states he would like to run for public office. He can't even run his own affairs. If this man can't be loyal to one woman, how could he possibly be loyal to a constituency. His current wife is kind enough to offer to raise the children born to the other women with whom he had affairs.

There are several matters that I would have you and your readers know with reference to the portrayal by Peter Boyer of me in what he styles "The War" between me and my former husband, Steve Garvey. First, I would certainly have preferred that no one's version of "The War" be offered for such conspicuous public consumption. Second, it is no less saddening than it is unsurprising that Steve would attempt in the media as he has in the courtroom to shift responsibility for his daughters' estrangement from him away from his own bizarre and hurtful behavior and on to me. Third, as people who know, work with and, yes, even love me would attest, I am not "obsessed," suicidal or a wild woman.
