Monday was a busy day for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the tight end front. First they traded former all-pro Kellen Winslow to the Seattle Seahawks for an undisclosed conditional draft pick in 2013. Then they signed another ex-pro bowler in free agent Dallas Clark, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts. Last season Winslow led the Bucs in receptions (75) and was a very close second in receiving yards to Mike Williams (771 to 763). In his three years with Tampa Bay he had 218 receptions for 2,377 yards and 12 touchdowns.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — When he was quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts, Peyton Manning was surrounded by standout receivers — sure-handed players such as Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and Pierre Garcon. But how much of that was Manning turning those players into stars with his pinpoint targeting? "I think it was a combination," said John Elway, Denver's executive vice president of football operations. "They got so good because of the years that they had together and the feel that they had in certain situations.

Key: Peyton Manning completed 23 of 34 passes for 235 yards, ending his streak of 300-yard games to start the season at five as the Colts won their 15th consecutive regular-season game and set a franchise record with their eighth road victory in a row. Colts said: "We had a great following today. It was outstanding. When we were introduced it felt like a home game." -- Dallas Clark, tight end, on visiting Colts fans Rams said: "My hat's off to them. Don't be surprised if they compete for a Super Bowl."

They are hoping to do the Texas two-step ? the first divisional sweep of the Indianapolis Colts since Tennessee did it in 2002 ? but the Houston Texans need to first find their defense. Although they are tied for first with the Colts in the AFC South at 4-2, the Texans are ranked last in total defense, giving up 410.5 yards per game. They are also last against the pass, a frightening prospect for them heading into a game against Peyton Manning. Houston's defense called a players-only meeting last week, a move usually reserved for backs-against-the-wall situations.

AFC New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts Saturday, 5 p.m. PST, Channel 4 This is a rematch of last season's AFC championship game, and it pits two teams that have had their struggles this season. The Colts have almost no running game and have more than their share of injuries, with an injured-reserve list that includes tight end Dallas Clark, receivers Austin Collie and Anthony Gonzalez, and nine defensive backs. But they also have Peyton Manning, the league's only four-time most valuable player, so they are always dangerous.

Amazingly, the Kansas City Chiefs -- a club that won just 10 games in the last three seasons -- is the NFL's only undefeated team. If they win at Indianapolis on Sunday, the Chiefs will become the eighth team in NFL history to start 4-0 after starting the previous season 0-4. "We don't want a repeat performance of last year," cornerback Brandon Carr told the Kansas City Star. "But we knew last year that we were getting better. It may not have shown on the scoreboard, but we were doing the little things.

There will be plenty of speculation this week about the status of Brett Favre's ankle and whether he can keep his 18-year record of consecutive starts going Sunday when Minnesota plays at New England. But the Indianapolis Colts have an impressive streak too, one that could be snapped Monday when they play host to Houston. The Colts have not been swept by an AFC South opponent since Tennessee beat them twice in 2002. The Texans have already beaten the Colts once this season, and will be looking to create some breathing room in the NFL's tightest division with a win at Lucas Oil Stadium.

NEW YORK - Coby Fleener's first NFL route was a comeback pattern. The Stanford tight end will be reunited in Indianapolis with Andrew Luck, his college quarterback. "I just sent him a text message that had a lot of exclamation points in it," Fleener said Friday, minutes after the Colts made him the second pick of the NFL draft's second round - 33 selections and 23 hours after Indianapolis used the No. 1 overall pick on Luck. For Fleener, a first-rounder in most mock drafts, the disappointment of slipping into the second day was quickly washed away when his cellphone finally rang in the green room at Radio City Music Hall.

In Tom we trust. Maybe. OK, so it's clear that New England quarterback Tom Brady is the NFL's most valuable player this season and, as Herm Edwards notes, is tearing through defenses as if he's a kid playing a video game. But are his Patriots going to rip through the playoffs the same way? They do, after all, have a very young defense that finished 25th overall and 30th against the pass. Atlanta looks as solid as Stone Mountain. Then again, the Falcons' three losses were to current playoff teams ?

Peyton Manning has lost another of his top targets for the season. Indianapolis Colts receiver Austin Collie suffered a concussion Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the team put him on injured reserve Wednesday. Though Collie is in his second year, Manning feels like he's losing a veteran. Despite sitting out five games and more than a half in three others, Collie leads all Colts receivers with eight touchdown catches, is second in receptions (58) and third in yards (649)

There's something about Archie Manning's easygoing drawl that makes you think nothing gets him too bothered. But don't be fooled. He's as antsy as you might expect the father of two NFL quarterbacks to be at this time of year, especially with Peyton and Eli Manning heading into the biggest games of the season. Archie and Olivia Manning will be in Indianapolis on Sunday to watch Peyton and the Colts in a do-or-die game against Jacksonville. In their direct line of vision will be a TV tuned to the New York Giants game going on at the same time, with Eli facing Philadelphia for first place in the NFC East.
