The Texas Supreme Court has overruled an attempt by former Oklahoma football Coach Barry Switzer to force a former Dallas Times Herald reporter to name what he contends are confidential sources. The court denied Switzer the chance to request a court order, which his attorneys sought in preparation for the Feb. 24 trial in a lawsuit by reporter Jack Taylor. Taylor is suing Switzer for $30 million in damages he claims were caused by Switzer's autobiography "Bootlegger's Boy."

As the Sooners' coach for 16 seasons, Switzer had felt the highs of three national championships and 12 Big Eight titles. He had also experienced, in late 1988 and early '89, the lows of NCAA probation and a variety of criminal charges involving his players.

An explosion and fire in the basement of the Dallas Times Herald newspaper forced an evacuation of the building and moved the printing of today's edition to another newspaper's presses. One worker was injured, and a woman was treated for smoke inhalation. About 200 people were forced to leave the building because of dense smoke. The fire was out less than an hour after it was reported Wednesday night. "It was an electrical short in the electrical room," said Deputy Fire Chief Larry Roberts.
