Danny Granger of the Indiana Pacers, who has played in only five games, will miss the remainder of the season after opting to have surgery on his injured left knee. The All-Star small forward, who has averaged 18.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists a game in his eight-year career, missed the start of the season after having surgery in October for patellar tendinosis. Granger returned to action as a reserve on Feb. 25 but played an average of 14.8 minutes in five games before soreness prevented him from making a full comeback.

The Indiana Pacers need to find a long-term replacement for Danny Granger. Team officials announced Wednesday that the one-time All-Star forward is expected to miss up to three months after receiving an injection in his left knee to treat patellar tendinosis. Losing Granger for an extended period is a big blow for a team that entered this season hoping to contend for an Eastern Conference title. He was the Pacers' top scorer last season (18.7 points) and is typically their first option in late-game situations too. Granger originally hurt the knee during May's playoff run. Coach Frank Vogel said the soreness dissipated for a while, then returned while Granger was working out during the off-season.

An NBA season isn't just a story that writes itself. It's also kind enough to touch on every genre. There's the fantasy of LeBron James and what he might do with the ball, the romance of Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets. There's the mystery of what goes on in the head of JaVale McGee. There's the Western (Conference), the league's better half. There's the horror of the Philadelphia 76ers, who might not be able to beat La Salle. The thriller of a draft lottery that will decide who gets Andrew Wiggins and the history of the Lakers and Boston Celtics, who don't have much of a present.
