Rev. James Anguiano, principal at Alemany High, declined to say whether Darryl McDonald has resigned or had been fired, but said applications are being accepted to replace the boys' basketball coach. McDonald, who guided Alemany to a share of the Mission League title last season, was discovered last month to be a registered sex offender. "We're moving forward," Anguiano said. A committee will be formed to interview and make recommendations in the hiring of a new coach.

For the record, Alemany High won its first game in five tries. But to the Indians, their 66-48 victory over Littlerock in the first round of the Valencia tournament Monday was merely a season opener, leaving them undefeated entering a quarterfinal game Wednesday against Birmingham. "Remember, we're 1-0, not 1-4," first-year Coach Darryl McDonald said. Two weeks ago, Alemany lost four games in the Saugus tournament by a combined 87 points.
