So I'm watching the Kings thrilling victory over New Jersey in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on NBC on Wednesday. And as exciting as the game was, as dramatic as Anze Kopitar's game-winning goal was, there was something missing . Bob Miller. You see, the NBC announcing team is led by Mike Emrick. A good play-by-play guy, but he was the lead play-by-play guy for the Devils from 1982-86 and 1993-2011. And it shows in his current gig, so the national telecast doesn't have the unbiased announcing you look for. The Kings' radio team of Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans is very good.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Greetings from the scene of Game 2 of the NHL's Western Conference finals, where it was 101 degrees (with 9% humidity) at 1 p.m. PT. The folks who run Jobing.com Arena kept the building very cold for Game 1 on Sunday and did a pretty good job with the ice during the Kings' 4-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. The ice specialists will have another challenge tonight with the 6 p.m. PT start, but we've all seen worse ice in rinks where the temperatures are lower and the humidity is higher.

Daryl Evans, the Kings' radio analyst and hero of the 1982 "Miracle on Manchester" playoff comeback, accurately predicted injured forward Brendan Shanahan would try to give the Red Wings an emotional boost by returning to the lineup in Game 5. Evans also said a good start by the Kings could turn the game and the series in their direction, and he was right again.

Kings left wing Dwight King could have given the expected answer when he was talking about previous influences in his life, namely if any of those folks reminded him of Coach Darryl Sutter. Rich Sutter, right? Rich, the younger brother of Darryl, was an assistant coach when King played junior hockey for Lethbridge, Canada, of the Western Hockey League. King called both Sutters "great men," but thought of someone else from back home in Saskatchewan who comes close to Darryl.
