The morning after David Dotson set the CIF state single-game rushing record with 507 yards, the Valley View High senior predicted he would break the national record of 608 yards. "To be honest, I think I might even have the chance to get 700 yards," said Dotson, whose record helped Valley View to a 56-0 victory over Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World Friday night at Moreno Valley High.

David Dotson, a second-year freshman tailback who gained 48 yards in nine carries Sunday against North Carolina, came to USC with impressive stats. At Valley View High in Moreno Valley, Dotson set five California high school records. As a senior during the 1991 season, Dotson ran for 3,544 yards, averaging 10 yards per carry and scoring 46 touchdowns. In one game, he ran for 507 yards in 27 carries.

David Dotson, Valley View High of Moreno Valley's record-setting running back, rushed for 326 yards in 35 carries and scored four touchdowns as the Eagles remained undefeated by beating Bloomington, 40-0, in a Sunkist League game at Bloomington Friday night. Dotson, who set a state-rushing record with 507 yards in a 56-0 victory over Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World last week, has 2,612 yards in 234 carries and 36 touchdowns this season, and a state-record 6,333 yards in his career.

Record-setting running back David Dotson of Valley View High in Moreno Valley, who rushed for 507 yards in one game last season, has made an oral commitment to USC. Dotson said he chose USC over Colorado and Arizona and will sign a letter of intent with the Trojans on national signing day, Feb. 5. "It basically came down to USC and Arizona and I wanted to be a little closer to home," said Dotson, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior.

Dotson gained 215 yards in 18 carries in the first half, but only played on special teams in the second half. He broke the record of 2,713 yards, set by Santa Monica's Glyn Milburn in 1987, on a two-yard gain on his 11th carry.

Deputy Police Chief David Dotson, the Los Angeles Police Commission's services coordinator, has been named an assistant chief of police. A 27-year veteran, Dotson replaces Assistant Chief Marvin Iannone, who retired this month to become chief of the Beverly Hills Police Department. Police Chief Daryl F. Gates has yet to make known which of the three assistant chief positions Dotson will fill.

Running back Dwight McFadden had a 17-yard touchdown run and quarterback Kyle Wachholtz had a one-yard touchdown sneak in an intrasquad scrimmage before about 2,500 at Howard Jones Field that concluded USC's spring football practice under Coach John Robinson. Returning starting quarterback Rob Johnson completed two of three passes for 45 yards. McFadden, who started at tailback, gained 34 yards in four carries.

Narcotics officers have seized 1,531 pounds of cocaine, most of it from a Yorba Linda house, and arrested two Colombians, police said today. Assistant Police Chief David Dotson said the investigation that led to the cocaine seizure and arrests involved the Los Angeles, Brea and Santa Ana police departments, the FBI and the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Dotson declined to say how narcotics officers were tipped to the drug, citing an ongoing investigation.
