Junior left-hander Rich Igou pitched a six-hitter and San Francisco beat Pepperdine, 4-3, on Saturday in a West Coast Conference baseball game in Malibu. Igou (3-5), from Notre Dame High, struck out three and walked four while ending Wave streaks of eight consecutive victories and 13 in a row at home.

Pepperdine left-hander Randy Wolf, the junior All-American, stifled visiting Cal State Fullerton over eight innings Wednesday, allowing five hits, striking out eight and walking one in an 8-1 victory. Fullerton (23-19-1) scored only in the fourth and Wolf (8-2) finished strong, striking out the side in the seventh and needing only six pitches in a one-two-three eighth. Fullerton, which has lost three of four to Pepperdine this season, scored first when Aaron Rowand singled in C.J.

Randy Wolf tied his Pepperdine record by striking out 14 batters and the Waves beat Portland, 11-0, in a West Coast Conference baseball opener Friday at Pepperdine. Wolf (4-2) pitched a six-hitter and walked two. He struck out 14 batters against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 28. Wolf, a former City Section player of the year at El Camino Real High, has allowed one run and 11 hits while striking out 19 in his last 18 innings. His earned run average is 1.50.

Moving swiftly and staying locally, Pepperdine named Frank Sanchez on Thursday to replace Pat Harrison as baseball coach. Sanchez, 43, has been the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at USC under Coach Mike Gillespie since 1987 and he coached Hart High from 1982-86, leading the Indians to four consecutive league championships. Harrison resigned last week after two seasons to become coach at Mississippi. The Waves were 69-38-1 under Harrison.

Pepperdine extended its winning streak to eight games by sweeping San Francisco, 11-3 and 7-4, in a West Coast Conference baseball doubleheader Friday in Malibu. The Waves (19-15, 7-0 in conference play) came from behind in each game, including a 3-1 deficit in the opener that was erased by a seven-run fourth inning. Shortstop David Matranga hit a three-run home run, his seventh homer of the season, and the Waves emerged from the inning with an 8-3 lead.
