Harvey Grant of the Washington Bullets was fined $7,500 and suspended for one game and David Robinson of the San Antonio Spurs was fined $5,000 for their roles in an incident during the Bullet-Spur game Wednesday night. Grant hit Robinson with a forearm to the chest and then punched him. Robinson slapped Grant.

David Robinson will be in the San Antonio lineup for the first time this season tonight night when the Spurs play the Phoenix Suns. Robinson left an Oct. 11 exhibition game because of back pain and sat out the Spurs' first 18 games. * The NBA fined Seattle SuperSonic Coach George Karl $7,500 for verbally abusing referee Bennett Salvatore and refusing to immediately leave the court after being ejected during the team's 117-86 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves last Thursday.

David Robinson, the San Antonio Spurs' All-Star center, underwent surgery on his left thumb Saturday and is expected to be sidelined six weeks. The NBA playoffs begin the week of April 20, and Robinson would miss the early games. He expressed doubt about playing on the U.S. Olympic team this summer. "That's not even a consideration any more," he said. "I have to worry about playing for the people that sign my paychecks." Robinson had played in 232 consecutive games. He was averaging 23.
