Relatives of an 8-year-old boy killed by a truck beat up the driver when he attended the child's funeral to offer an apology, Thai newspapers reported Friday. It took police 10 minutes to drive back the angry crowd at Thursday's funeral at a Buddhist temple in Pathum Thani, north of Bangkok, one newspaper reported. The 33-year-old truck driver was bundled into a police car and returned to the jail.

A 22-month-old child whose body was found in the back of his father's minivan this week near the City of Industry had died at his home in Lancaster, sheriff's deputies said Friday. The father, Anthony Bill Lopez, 35, is to be arraigned Monday on suspicion of murder in the death of his son, Isaac. Lopez's estranged common-law wife, whom investigators would not identify, told detectives Wednesday that Lopez picked up his son early Tuesday for a shopping trip for clothes and never returned.

And here, sorrowfully, she is again. Another dead child, her name unknown for almost three decades. Now that New York's cold case of another long-dead, long-unknown child has been solved, Los Angeles is hoping that its anonymous little girl, Baby Jane Doe #61, found dead in 1985, might also be matched with a name, and even a family - and one day, maybe linked to whoever neglected her to death. New York's “Baby Hope” was 4 years old in 1991 when she was sexually assaulted and killed.

Gary Elize was gloomily looking for one last body Wednesday in the flattened apartment where his brother and sister-in-law had died: that of their 5-year-old child. He said he spotted the boy's leg in the rubble and put on a pair of surgical gloves, preparing to extract it. Then, the leg moved. Elize told of how he and several friends dug furiously in the steamy heat and unearthed Monley Elize -- dirt-caked, dehydrated, emaciated and scuffed up, but otherwise unhurt. Monley's first words were whispered.

Hedda Nussbaum was a battered drug-taking woman, as far from the concept of a "mother" as is ever imaginable. Dworkin has made Hedda Nussbaum the battered wife/mother figure of this tragic case. Dworkin forgets that Hedda Nussbaum is alive and the real victim of this case is the dead child, Lisa Steinberg, who never knew the love and care of a real mother. A mother protects her child against all odds--and I don't care if that mother is battered to a pulp. With Nussbaum as her mother image, Lisa was lost from the first day Hedda touched her. MRS. The loss of a child to gang violence, whether that child is a gangbanger or not, is tragic. I take some exception to the investigator who asked, "How do you tell a doctor that his son is a gangbanger?" ("Gangs in Affluent Black Turf," Nov. 13). Probably the same way you tell any grieving parent, regardless of socioeconomic level. Certainly for an unsuspecting parent, the revelation that his dead child was a gang member would be an added shock. But for the parent who suspects his child is a gang member and is unable to remove that child from the gang culture, the concern and frustration preceding his death are also painful.

A woman and a child were found shot to death Sunday inside a car on a Lake View Terrace street, and a second child was injured, apparently by glass that was broken when a gunman fired into the vehicle, police said. Witnesses told police that a man with a rifle came out of a house in the 11400 block of Wheeler Avenue and approached a Toyota Camry with the woman and two children inside. The gunman shot out a window in the car, and reached inside to open a door, police said.

Faith healer Oral Roberts, whose successful plea for $8 million to prevent God from taking his life drew controversy earlier this year, recaptured the television evangelist spotlight Friday with a claim that he has raised the dead. Roberts' comments, to about 5,000 people Thursday at a charismatic conference at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, were broadcast nationally Friday on his son's "Richard Roberts Live" program.

Every time CNN's courtroom camera lingered on the sad face of George Zimmerman today, I felt slightly sick. What a nauseating set of events he unleashed on that drizzly Florida night nearly 17 months ago. He may not be a murderer -- only the jury of six women will make that judgment -- but he certainly is a killer. He has taken one life and ruined his own. The case has also ensnared his wife, who faces criminal charges for telling a judge at a bond hearing that they were broke when their accounts were fat with donations from supporters.

It was Jordan York, 4 months old, who gave Nick Draper, 7 months old, the gift of life. Hour after hour, Jordan lay still and silent, his tiny heart beating valiantly against the odds. His doctors declared him brain dead. His mother put everything in God's hands. A hospital chaplain baptized him. His mother and father held his small fingers. With the chaplain, they said the Lord's Prayer.

Three young children were brutally beaten--and one of them died--during what police describe as a "night of torture" last week at an apartment in Inglewood. Their mother's boyfriend, Lamar King, 26, was being held Monday at the Los Angeles County Jail on charges of murder and injuring children. Police said no charges have been filed against the mother, who on the night of the attack was at a hospital being treated for an illness.

Marion Duff lost her only son five months ago. And ever since James Duff died, his mother has suffered through the maddening ritual of receiving his monthly child support bills from the office of Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti. "You know how upsetting it is to get these notices?" she asked recently, anxiously rubbing her forehead as she sat before a pile of papers on her kitchen table. Duff said that in May she sent back the first bill with a copy of her son's death certificate. She got another bill.
