DeAndre Belin, a former football star who struggled to turn his high school success into a college career, was shot to death Monday night inside his Ontario mobile home. Ontario police said the assailant escaped, probably in a dark-colored, late-model Honda that was seen fleeing Webb's Mobile Park in the 600 block of West Brooks Street about 7 p.m. Monday. Witnesses inside the mobile home with Belin, 21, told police they heard a loud bang at the sliding glass door.

Hands were not a strong point for the Troy football team Friday night. On offense, the Warriors couldn't hold onto the ball, and on defense, they couldn't hold onto La Verne Bonita running back DeAndre Belin. The Warriors turned the ball over three times on fumbles and Belin rushed for 261 yards and three touchdowns as Bonita won the Southern Section Division IX second-round game, 35-22, at Fullerton High.

Brea Olinda (12-0-1) vs. La Verne Bonita (13-0) 7:30 TONIGHT MT. SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE The Division IX playoffs have held form as top-seeded La Verne Bonita meets second-seeded Brea Olinda. One team will take home the championship for the first time in decades; the Wildcats haven't won a title since 1963, the Bearcats since 1945. Bonita features the more balanced offense. Quarterback Shaun Abkarian (three interceptions in 185 passes) and running back DeAndre Belin are equally dangerous.

La Verne Bonita 57, University 21--DeAndre Belin rushed for 268 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the top-seeded Bearcats. Belin, who rushed for 1,426 yards and 24 touchdowns in the regular season, was virtually unstoppable. The 6-2, 230-pound running back scored on touchdown runs of 76 and 45 yards in the first half. Belin accounted for 225 of the Bearcats' 270 yards in the first half. University (4-7) took the opening kickoff and scored three plays later to take a 7-0 lead.

Thirty years after its last championship game appearance and four years removed from a humiliating 1-9 season, Bonita High's football team continued its resurrection Friday night by disposing of intradistrict rival San Dimas, 41-7, before an estimated 4,500 at Citrus College. The Southern Section Division IX semifinal victory moved Bonita (13-0) back into its long-awaited title game Friday against the winner of tonight's Brea Olinda-Western game.

Rialto Eisenhower 13, St. Paul 9--Michael Hawkins scored on a one-yard in the second quarter as the Eagles advanced to the Division I semifinals with the victory at Eisenhower. Diamond Bar 49, San Clemente 21--Jason Wright rushed for 241 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the defending-champion Brahmas (12-0) in a Division II victory at San Clemente. Dwight Wright of Diamond Bar added 118 yards and three touchdowns.
