The teacher and the student still are in the classroom this late in the season, the lessons of how best to play this game of basketball being taught. Whether it's during a game or at practice or riding the team bus or flying on the Clippers' chartered jet, sage veteran Chauncey Billups has bestowed his wisdom upon young DeAndre Jordan . Jordan, 24, and Billups, 36, have developed a bond that has benefited the center and the Clippers. "I look at him a lot," Jordan said. "No disrespect to our coaches, but I'm looking at him and he's like, 'Get over there' if I mess up. He'll tell you. He doesn't care if you get mad at him. But at the end of the day, I know he's telling me the right thing.

Reporting from Boston ? If anything, DeAndre Jordan was getting too much information before hitting what would be the biggest free throws of his life in the Clippers' 108-103 win Wednesday against Boston. On top of that, there was another voice, one urging him to do something before he went to the line with 15.6 seconds remaining and the Clippers clinging to a four-point lead. It was the Celtics' Rajon Rondo, putting yet another thought in Jordan's mind, which he was trying to de-clutter at TD Garden.

The Clippers and the Boston Celtics have agreed in principle on a deal that will send Coach Doc Rivers to Los Angeles, according to NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the situation. The Clippers will send the Celtics a first-round pick in 2015. The sticking point had been that the Clippers wanted the draft pick to be lottery protected, but the Celtics ended up getting their wish as the pick will be unprotected. The Clippers will take over the contract Rivers had with Boston, which has three years and $21 million left on it. The deal finally comes after a week of on-again, off-again negotiations between the teams.

INDIANA AT CLIPPERS When: 12:30 p.m. Sunday. TV: Prime Ticket. Clippers center DeAndre Jordan has said he wants to go for it. Pacers center Roy Hibbert has tweeted a similar desire. An NBA title? Well, of course they would like that, but the big men have also expressed a strong yearning to win the league's defensive-player-of-the-year award. Hibbert ranks second in the league with 3.8 blocked shots per game and Jordan is fifth with 2.3. It probably also helps Hibbert's cause that the Pacers are holding opponents to a league-low 85.6 points a game and have yielded 100 points only once, to the Chicago Bulls.

He was hardly in the mood to celebrate All-Star status, not after the Clippers lost to the Hawks by a point. But Blake Griffin on Friday managed to reflect on his journey and his official arrival, joining elite NBA company. He is the first rookie All-Star selection since Yao Ming in 2003. "It means a lot to me," said Griffin, who sat out last season because of knee surgery. "The best part is I owe all of this to my teammates and to our coaching staff. Everybody involved in trying to help me get back.

The Clippers had hoped Chris Kaman's injured left ankle would heal in time for the All-Star center to rejoin the team's lineup next week when they leave for a three-game trip. But it's not to be. Kaman, 28, will miss at least three more weeks because of the ankle has a bone bruise and ligament sprain, the Clippers said Friday. "I'm frustrated and disappointed that I have to wait longer," Kaman said. "I was hoping to play sooner, but injuries are a part of basketball.

DeAndre Jordan, the irrepressible Clippers center, had big plans after an inspirational Tuesday morning. "I'm going to run for president," he said, joking. "I'm working on it." What about a stop along the way -- like the Senate -- before trying to follow President Barack Obama's footsteps? "No, straight to it," Jordan said. Hmm, higher office or dealing with the likes of the Lakers' Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol tonight at Staples Center.

All season long, Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro could look down his bench and see more of his key players in street clothes than in uniform. In a strange cycle, injuries kept decimating his roster, and when one player returned healthy, another seemed to go down. For the first time this season, though, everyone is back, leaving Del Negro to declare Friday that he has "more firepower and more weapons. " But that raises questions about how he uses the newfound depth.
