As the star of the Disney Channel series "Sonny With a Chance," teen actress Demi Lovato plays an effervescent small-town girl who wins a national talent contest to land a starring role on a popular variety show. As the title character, Sonny copes with a jealous costar, a dearth of fan mail and the hazards of celebrity dating, among other situations only to be encountered by a budding idol. FOR THE RECORD: Actress photograph: A photograph of "iCarly" star Miranda Cosgrove erroneously accompanied an article in Saturday's Calendar section about pressures on young celebrities.

Research about cable's highest-rated entertainment show in 2008 revealed some complaints television executives rarely see about their programs — not enough s'mores, bonfires and water fights. The made-for-TV movie was Disney Channel's wildly successful " Camp Rock," which starred Disney darlings the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato and drew an impressive audience of 10 million viewers. Audiences enjoyed the show, they just wanted more of the joy and antics of a typical summer camp experience.

While rumors of a Joe Jonas sex tape circulated online Thursday, the singer's rep came out with a firm denial that any such tape exists. The notion of the 23-year-old starring in such a tape, especially the way this one has been described, would be particularly notable given his and his brothers' chaste reputations. And Jonas' personal denial resulted in a post we never expected to see on his Twitter feed. "ball gag? really? me? come on guys," Jonas wrote in the afternoon. Unexpected words from a guy once widely known for his purity ring.

Country-crooning family man Tate Stevens has won Season 2 of "The X Factor," beating out preternaturally talented teen Carly Rose Sonenclar, who came in second, and show-manufactured girl group Fifth Harmony, which came in third. That news was delivered on Thursday night after two hours of "grand finale" filler that included only a stingy two musical acts (One Direction, in their second appearance on the U.S. version of the British show that launched them, and Pitbull) to help us pass the time.

You know how shows like "The X Factor" are supposed to be about giving every little girl who ever sang into her hairbrush in Smalltown, USA, and every little boy who ever moonwalked across his living room in Hard Luck City a shot at realizing his or her dream? Yeah, well, they're also apparently about giving the progeny of world famous celebrities a chance to grab the spotlight, too - at least until the judges' goodwill runs out. Remember Jim Carrey's daughter on "American Idol" last season?

Fox announced Monday that it will be bringing back "The X Factor" for a third season. The current season kicked off with new additions Britney Spears and Demi Lovato. Despite the hype of its new faces, the Season 2 premiere averaged 8.5 million viewers, down more than 3 million from last year's premiere. Settling in, the Fox series is averaging a 3.9 rating with adults age 18-49 and bringing in 10.6 million total viewers. "I couldn't be happier about THE X FACTOR already being renewed for another season," the ever-confident Simon Cowell said in a lengthy statement.

Well, that's a relief. CeCe Frey finally left "The X Factor" Thursday night, and we didn't even have to hear her sing again. Perhaps this new system of unceremoniously dropping one contestant early on elimination night and then focusing on the two acts that got the next two lowest number of audience votes isn't so bad after all. But before Frey left, she looked deep into the camera with her chilly Barbie doll eyes, and gave us a little advice...

OK, "X Factor" watchers, we're almost there. The final performance show of the season began with an anxious-looking Simon Cowell introducing a tribute to the victims of Sandy Hook: Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone," featuring most of this season's top 13, dressed in white, and joined by what appeared to be a school choir. The names of the victims were projected on screens behind them. Then it was back to the competition, where country-singing family man Tate Stevens, 13-year-old wunderkind Carly Rose Sonenclar and long-shot insta-group Fifth Harmony would battle it out for the win - and the $5-million prize.
