Kobe Bryant and the Lakers have fans all over the world, including the Philippines. Dwight Howard, playing an exhibition game Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines, received scattered boos and "Kobe" chants as the Houston Rockets faced the Indiana Pacers, according to InterAKTV . The Rockets won handily, 116-96, but Howard struggled with nine points, five fouls and four turnovers in about 24 minutes. Howard was applauded on his lone free throw make in four tries.

To make the playoffs, the Lakers need to be better than seven teams in the Western Conference. In the first 11 of 14 entries, the Lakers were ruled better than five ( New Orleans Pelicans , Phoenix Suns , Sacramento Kings , Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz ) but not as good as the Oklahoma City Thunder , San Antonio Spurs , Memphis Grizzlies , Golden State Warriors , Houston Rockets and Clippers . Are the Lakers better than the Denver Nuggets?

Brian Shaw stepped out of the visitors' locker room and into his past at Staples Center. After so many years as a Lakers player and assistant coach, he was on the other side of the scorer's table Sunday for an exhibition game, his first as a head coach. Shaw was hired by the Denver Nuggets after interviews with countless teams over the years to be a head coach. Of course, he hoped to get a chance with the Lakers last November after they fired Mike Brown. Shaw was an assistant with the Indiana Pacers at the time.

This is a big week for the Clippers, as their search for a new coach ramps up with interviews with four potential candidates, according to several NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the situation. Indiana Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw was at the Clippers' practice facility Monday meeting with the front office. Shaw is expected have dinner with Clippers owner Donald Sterling on Monday night. The Clippers then have a scheduled interview Tuesday with former Cleveland Cavaliers Coach Byron Scott.

In another bizarre twist for the Denver Nuggets, they have reportedly fired George Karl after the NBA's coach of the year had asked the team about extending his contract past next season. This gives the Nuggets a second vacancy after General Manager Masai Ujiri, the NBA's executive of the year, recently departed for Toronto. Nuggets President Josh Kroenke told the Denver Post that because of the uncertainty with Karl's contract situation and Karl's possible interest in the Clippers' coaching opening, Kroenke wanted to start anew with another coach.

The Hamilton boys — Gary, Jordan, Isaac and Daniel — fell in love with the same girl, according to their mother, Karen. "Spalding," she said. Yes, basketball has become their ticket to college and success. Last week, junior Daniel Hamilton of Bellflower St. John Bosco became the fourth brother to accept a basketball scholarship when he committed to Connecticut. He joins Isaac, a McDonald's All-American who will graduate next month from St. John Bosco and head to Texas El Paso; Jordan, who played for Texas and was a first-round draft pick of the Denver Nuggets in 2011; and Gary, who played at Miami and has been a pro player overseas.
