The Lions re-signed Calvin Johnson to the biggest deal in NFL history. The Colts surprised everyone by re-signing Reggie Wayne. And now the Eagles, too, have buttoned down their star receiver, re-signing DeSean Jackson on Wednesday to a five-year deal reportedly worth $51 million, according to ESPN. Philadelphia had already made him its franchise player. Jackson, who twice reached the Pro Bowl, spent the better part of the last two seasons sulking about his bargain-basement deal.

The Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday put the franchise tag on wide receiver DeSean Jackson . Jackson, a 2008 second-round pick from California and Long Beach Poly, who led Philadelphia with 961 yards receiving last season, was scheduled to become a free agent on March 13. "We want DeSean to be an Eagle for the long haul, and this is a step in the right direction to accomplish that," General Manager Howie Roseman said. "DeSean is a talented player and a proven playmaker in this league, and we look forward to him continuing his career in Philadelphia.

Reporting from Philadelphia -- The Philadelphia Eagles have put together the truest of fantasy teams. Getting to the playoffs is looking like pure make-believe. Michael Vick says, "Lord willing, maybe we can wind up 10-6," but he knows it would be easier for Vince Young — a career 57.9% passer — to thread a deep ball through the eye of a needle. At 3-6, the Eagles would have to win their remaining seven games, starting with Sunday night's against the New York Giants. By all indications, Young will start in place of Vick, who has two broken ribs.

One career playoff victory, and Aaron Rodgers already has his ring. That is to say, Rodgers and his Green Bay Packers have taken Philadelphia full circle. Green Bay beat the Eagles in their opener, then ended their season on the same field four months later, posting a 21-16 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday before a frigid fan base at Lincoln Financial Field. In the process, the Packers closed the book on the comeback season of Michael Vick, and started a new chapter of their own ?

On do-or-die Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles did a little of both. They died, then somehow got it done. While Kansas City and Indianapolis had the luxury of some breathing room in their successful must-win outings, it's unclear whether the city of Philadelphia has even exhaled yet. The Eagles pulled off the most stunning comeback of the season ? the biggest fourth-quarter rally in club history ? erasing a three-touchdown deficit to the host New York Giants with four touchdowns in the final 7 minutes 28 seconds.

Pro Bowl receiver DeSean Jackson is so speedy, one of his Philadelphia Eagles teammates describes him as "a different breed" and "a freak of nature. " It wasn't some plodding offensive lineman who called him that, but hard-to-impress quarterback Michael Vick, who relies on Jackson (and receiver Jeremy Maclin) to stretch the field and test the limits of a defense. Jackson will be a key offensive weapon Sunday night when the Eagles play host to the New York Giants with first place in the NFC East on the line.
