A new anti-gang program serving Pasadena and Altadena will receive a two-year funding allocation of $211,000 as part of a $21.4-million federal block grant to Los Angeles County, officials said Monday. The Community Law Enforcement and Recovery program, or CLEAR, officially opened Monday at 396 W. Washington Blvd. in Pasadena, about a mile from the Altadena border. "Criminals cross community borders," county Supervisor Mike Antonovich said in a statement.

A San Fernando Valley group has received a federal grant to fund substance abuse prevention and other social programs in the Asian American community. The federal Center for Substance Abuse Prevention under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has approved a $275,000 grant for the Asian and Pacific Islander Council of the San Fernando Valley, according to council board member Sue Fan.
