JERUSALEM - There was no white smoke and little pomp, but a collection of religious and political leaders emerged Wednesday from a much-anticipated private meeting in a Jerusalem hotel to announce the election of Israel's next two chief rabbis, who will take their place among the nation's most influential religious figures. It was a bruising, sometimes ugly campaign in which many of the candidates were tainted by allegations of corruption, nepotism or racism, underscoring why the government-funded rabbinate has fallen so low in public opinion in recent years.

Toni Braxton has officially ended her 12-year marriage. The Grammy-winning singer's divorce from Keri Lewis is final, her rep said in a statement Wednesday. "The couple has had an amicable split and will still both be actively involved in raising their two sons," the statement said. A financial settlement has been reached between Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade and ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, bringing to an end a long and bitter divorce saga. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that as part of the settlement, Funches will receive $5 million, four cars and a mansion she once shared with Wade. There is also an agreement that says neither side can make disparaging comments about each other, the Sun-Times reports. The settlement comes three days after Funches sat alongside a busy Chicago street outside a courthouse with a sign implying that the three-time NBA champ had left her homeless and destitute.

Miley Cyrus' parents are staying married. Again. Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus both filed for divorce -- he in Nashville, she in L.A. -- in mid-June. It wasn't Billy Ray's first filing, however. He'd done so once before, in October 2010, but the couple reconciled that time too. "We both woke up and realized we love each other and decided we want to stay together," they said Monday in a statement obtained by People. The husband and wife accused of teaming up and killing two Texas prosecutors out of revenge are on the verge of getting a divorce, according to court documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times. The big criminal news out of Kaufman County, Texas, on Thursday was the unsealing of grand jury indictments against Eric Lyle Williams and Kim Lene Williams, both 46. The pair were arrested in April on suspicion of killing Kaufman County Assistant Dist. Atty. Mark Hasse outside the Kaufman County Courthouse in late January and Dist.

Rupert Murdoch's days of wine and roses have been delayed as the media titan's planned purchase of the picturesque 16-acre Moraga Vineyards in the hills above Bel-Air has hit a bureaucratic snag. The state of California has not yet issued the billionaire mogul and News Corp. chairman a liquor license, which Murdoch needs to take possession of the property. Murdoch's liquor license is "pending," according to state records. PHOTOS: Celebrities by The Times California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control documents indicate that Murdoch applied for a Type 02 California Winegrowers license March 25 -- about six weeks before the 82-year-old tycoon gleefully announced on Twitter his plans to buy the vineyard . On the day the Supreme Court handed two major victories to the gay rights movement, Rossmoor Pastries in Signal Hill put the finishing touches on a wedding cake celebrating gay marriage. The Kremlin has just issued a 12-year plan to address Russia's demographic crisis - that is, its high mortality rate and low birthrate. Buoyed apparently by a recent rise in the birthrate - 1.9 million Russian children were born in 2012, compared with 1.2 million in 1992 - the country has announced that it will give bonuses to families that have more than two children and will provide better healthcare, housing and education for families. In addition to these "carrots," the government has announced some "sticks": Divorce will be taxed as an "act of hatred toward children," and a fixed sum of alimony will be demanded even of those who are poor or unemployed.

Katy Perry is revealing details of her short-lived marriage to British comedian Russell Brand - and they sure are fireworks. The 28-year-old pop star, who is voicing Smurfette in the upcoming flick "Smurfs 2," opened up about her relationships with Brand and musician John Mayer in Vogue's July issue , candidly expressing how hurt she was during her breakups and how she hasn't heard from Brand in some time.
