Playwright Eugene Ionesco, who was to have appeared at Stages Theatre Center's tribute "An Evening With Eugene Ionesco" on Saturday at the James Doolittle Theatre, is ailing in Paris and will be unable to attend. The benefit event, featuring staged readings of Ionesco's works, will be held as planned. Actors participating include Rene Auberjonois, Bud Cort, Patty Duke, Fionnula Flanagan, Joe Frank, Arye Gross, Salome Jens, Nan Martin, Tom Waits and Grace Zabriskie.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, 10 a.m., at the Mark Taper Forum for Jim Conklin, 55, box-office treasurer and theatrical producer, who died March 25 of cancer. At the time of his death, Conklin was serving as box-office treasurer at the James A. Doolittle Theatre. He had been treasurer at the Taper from 1972-85.
