Finding the right actor to play the larger-than-life role of Charles Dickens in the new biopic "The Invisible Woman" proved to be a challenge for sophomore director Ralph Fiennes. After his first choice turned him down, Fiennes reluctantly went with a two-time Academy Award nominee: Ralph Fiennes. At the Envelope Screening Series , Fiennes, co-star Felicity Jones and Times reporter Glenn Whipp talked about Fiennes' working on both sides of the camera. "He kept on bugging me that he wanted to play the part," Fiennes said, jokingly referring to himself.

In "The Devil's Double," which opens in Los Angeles on Friday, actor Dominic Cooper does double duty. Not only does he play Uday Hussein, the notorious sadistic playboy son of Saddam Hussein, he also plays Latif Yahia — a man whose resemblance to Uday earned him the unwelcome job of his body double. Audiences have long loved a twin-type story — and given the economics of modern Hollywood, getting two performances out of one star must seem like a good deal. Although making it appear as if the same person is doubled on-screen is one of the oldest camera tricks around, digital technology has given filmmakers more options than ever to work their sleight-of-hand.

Action sports and high fashion may not seem like the most likely of companions, but in the past decade designers have done more than dip a toe into surf culture; they have embraced the easygoing, sun-drenched lifestyle common to Southern California and found plenty of inspiration. The fashion industry's love affair with surfing became most apparent about 11 years ago, when Karl Lagerfeld sent models clutching Chanel-logoed surfboards down the runway as they modeled clothes for spring 2003.

There are a lot of new faces in the Cal State Dominguez Hills soccer program, but the one face everyone keeps seeing is Marine Cano's. The former goalie for the Los Angeles Skyhawks and the Cleveland Cobras in the American Soccer League and the Cleveland Force of the Major Indoor Soccer League is doing double duty as coach of the men's and women's teams at Dominguez Hills. He figures nobody ever said it would be easy.
