Police on Wednesday were searching for those responsible for the drive-by shooting death of a man in Watts. The man was standing outside of a home near Compton Avenue and East 107th Street on Tuesday night when someone fired a round striking him in the chest about 7:20 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Sally Madera. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.  HOMICIDE REPORT: Track killings in L.A. County   The man's name was not immediately released but Madera said he was in his late 20s. The suspected assailant fled the scene in a vehicle and remains at large.

An 8-year-old boy was in stable condition Sunday after being wounded in a drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles, police said. The shooting occurred near Imperial Highway and Avalon Boulevard about 6:35 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Val Valenti of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Station. The boy was at a house party when the suspect drove up in a blue Mercedes-Benz, shouted something gang-related and fired multiple shots from a handgun, Valenti said. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to his upper body.

A 19-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting Monday evening as he sat in his car in South Los Angeles, police said. The man was sitting in his car near the intersection of Century Boulevard and Vermont Avenue in the Vermont Vista neighborhood when two people drove up alongside him in another vehicle about 5:45 p.m. and opened fire, said Los Angeles police officer Gregory Baek. The shooters fired "several rounds" before fleeing the scene, Baek added. HOMICIDE REPORT: Track killings in L.A. County The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to an area hospital where he died.

Detectives in Santa Ana are asking for the public's help in identifying a vehicle involved in a drive-by shooting that was captured on video. The video, shot by a home surveillance camera, shows the driver of a black car pulling up next to a man on a red bicycle while a passenger takes a shot at the bicyclist as he swerves away. The shooter misses and the bicyclist keeps riding. The incident occurred about noon Tuesday on East Myrtle Street, near Halladay Street, about a block from an elementary school.

Sheriff's officials said Saturday they were looking for at least one person in connection with a drive-by shooting in Willowbrook that left one person dead. The shooting occurred Friday at about 4 p.m. in the 11700 block of East 117th Street in unincorporated Los Angeles County, according to a statement from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.  HOMICIDE REPORT: Track every killing in L.A. County   A witness told authorities that the victim, a 22-year-old man, was sitting in a car when a sport utility vehicle pulled up next to him and someone in the SUV shot into the car. The victim was hit multiple times and taken to a hospital where he died, authorities said.

A party in South L.A. turned deadly early Monday when one person was killed and three were wounded during a drive-by shooting. The shooting broke out about 12:30 a.m. outside a warehouse in the 13100 block of Broadway in Willowbrook, when a car drove by and a shooter sprayed people outside the party with bullets, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. One man was killed, another was critically wounded and two others were listed in stable condition following the attack, the Sheriff's Department said.

Authorities in Simi Valley were searching for answers Monday as to why an Army veteran allegedly killed his mother, then rode a tractor through the neighborhood and shot indiscriminately at residents before being killed by police. Ryan Carnan, 29, was killed by police after they received a call about 4:45 p.m. Saturday from a man who identified himself as Carnan's brother. The brother reported that Carnan called him and said he had killed his mother in the 1100 block of Mellow Lane.

In the concrete courtyard that had hosted family barbecues and children's birthday parties with piñatas and cake, the mother of Juan Jose Barajas laid out red roses in front of a shrine to her son. As they have every evening since Saturday, friends and neighbors gathered to say the rosary and light candles for Barajas, a 41-year-old father of four who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting, an apparently innocent bystander. Monday was the third night of vigil and the crowd had swelled to about 100 in anticipation of a full Catholic Mass on the patio behind Barajas' apartment building on Witmer Street in L.A.'s Westlake district.

Authorities said the men, who are 45 to 50 years old, were in front of a home in the 400 block of West 89 th Street when someone inside a burgundy Jeep Cherokee opened fire at them. Four men were shot and wounded in a suspected gang-related attack in South Los Angeles, police said Tuesday night. The men were sprayed with gunfire when a car described as a burgundy Jeep Cherokee drove by, the Los Angeles Police Department said.  The condition of the victims was not immediately known. They were believed to be between 45 and 50 years old, Officer Norma Eisenman said.  She said the men were in front of a home in the 400 block of West 89th Street when the Jeep passed by shortly 6 p.m. In the last six months, at least 203 violent crimes and 404 property crimes have been reported in the Vermont Vista neighborhood where the shooting took place, according to the Times Mapping L.A. database . A 24-year-old Pomona woman was fatally wounded in what authorities believe was a drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles on Christmas Day. Juliana Barrios was shot in the chest around 5 p.m. in the 700 block of East 87th Street while in a front yard, according to police and coroner's officials. The victim was transported by friends or family to a hospital, according to Sgt. Wes Lin of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Division. She was pronounced dead outside the hospital doorway shortly after the shooting, Lin said.

Authorities are investigating the Saturday drive-by shooting death of a man on the 1200 block of East 121st Street in the Willowbrook neighborhood of unincorporated Los Angeles. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a release. A suspect in a moving black Hyundai had apparently opened fire on two victims, then drove west on East 121st Street.  The victims were discovered sitting in front of a car suffering from gunshot wounds.

Coroner's officials have identified the 7-year-old boy who died after being shot Monday night in Mid-City. Talaib Pecante died at Children's Hospital Los Angeles shortly before 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said. The boy, who police initially said was 9, appeared to be improving Tuesday afternoon but suffered a setback a few hours later, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. An investigation into the shooting was continuing Wednesday.

A child shot near his heart in Mid-City was upgraded from critical to serious condition Tuesday, Los Angeles police said. The 7-year-old boy, who police initially reported as being older, was shot as he was sitting in a car about 11 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of South Corning Street. According to police, an unknown number of men in a white vehicle drove up, unleashed a barrage of gunfire at the rear of the car and sped off. The boy was hit at least once and his mother was grazed in the leg, CBS-TV Channel 2 reported.
